Artist description
Area Man rediscovers the art of the song with a post-Beatles disdain for the show biz elements of rock. It's literate hooky guitar pop, delivered from a standing position. Sometimes it's so simple it's embarrassing. Sometimes the squall of feedback sets your teeth on edge. In any case, it's Area Man. |

Artist History
Area Man is revived from a Boston band called Bentham, a short-lived vehicle for songwriter-guitarist-singer Ben Paulos. Just as things were getting rolling with Bentham, Paulos went off to grad school in Wisconsin. Now with that business out of the way, Paulos has assembled Area Man to take up where he left off. |

Press Reviews
Reviewed by John Noyd in Maximum Ink, Jan-Feb 2000. -- "Area Man's impassioned nostalgia for jangly rock pop and neo-romantic story songs cooks up some mighty fine kernels of contagious ear candy. The trio of bassist Ken Keeley, guitarist Ben Paulos and drummer John Driscoll have a real talent when it comes to rosy, upbeat guitar pop. Their five-song demo is a tasty treat of catchy electric guitar solos and clever, almost smug lyrics. For a trio, Area Man puts out a lot of enthusiastic energy, heavy on the charm and ripe with a vibe somewhere between the Raspberries and the Shondells.
