Artist History
In the wake of band striving to sound like the popular bands, Anamnesis is introducing a new, unique sound to the Twin Cities music scene. The origins of Anamnesis steam back to a band called Wedge, established in 1997 and formed by childhood friends Mike Maggiolo and Chad Grill. The band spent halfof their two-year tenure developing a sound that embodied the unique musical styles of all that wereinvolved. In the development process, Wedge fell apart, with the former members moving on to differentmusical endeavors. Mike and Chad were still enthusiastic about developing the sound that’s foundationwas established in Wedge, but would soon be the building blocks for Anamnesis. In August of 1999, the opportunity to get the ball rolling arose when Mike received a call from MattDavis, the original vocalist from Wedge who had left to pursue other interests in Seattle. Matt informedMike that he was returning to the Twin Cities and was interested in starting another band with he andChad. Already having music written, the search was on for a drummer. As luck would have it, a drummerwas right under Chad’s nose in Aaron Thompson, a childhood friend whom he had played with in aprevious band. When Aaron heard of the opportunity, through Chad, he stated that he would like to playwith the band. Before the first practice was done it was obvious that Aaron was the best man for the job. With Matt still in Seattle for another two weeks, Mike and Chad had time to work with Aaron onlearning the songs they had already written. This time also allowed for reflection on the songs and line-up,particularly in the area of adding a second guitarist. Once it was agreed that a second guitarist would addmuch more depth, Mike offered the position to long-time friend and fellow guitar player Lon Chubiz tocomplete the line-up.Now that the band was complete, most of the songs were finished, and the name had been chosen,Anamnesis was ready to unleash their unique brand or emotionally driven metal-core on the Minneapolisscene. They recorded a four-song demo in October of 1999, for promotional purposes, and beganbooking shows the following month. |
