Artist History
Formed in Vancouver in 1996, The Dreaming is more than a unique sound - it's a band concept that defies logical description. The Dreaming consists of four strong opinions and four distinct personalities combining to create one cohesive sound. More than just pretty faces, they are experimenting using different styles and sounds with tracks such as "And Then There Is Beauty", "Breaking Waves", and "Thank You", all of which can be heard on their debut independent CD, "A Personal Soundtrack". At just over 59 minutes long and 13 songs wide, it's quite an under-taking, and well worth the listen. By testing their new material and strengthening their well-received live show, the group has evolved over the last five years into its current form, with vocals by Laur a Crema, Nathan Lorch on guitar, bass by Jesse Lyon, and Matt Heximer on drums. The individual band members come from a variety of musical styles and ideologies, providing a unique musical mix. Stylistically an alternative band, The Dreaming has succeede d in carv ing out their own musical identity; a band where music comes first, leaving little time for politics, economics, or arts & crafts.

Press Reviews
Judging by this ambitious debut CD, the Dreaming has a good shot at the title of most-promising prog-rock/fusion combo in Vancouver. Comprised of singer Laura Crema, drummer Matt Heximer, bassist Jesse Lyon, and a superior guitarist known only as "The Kid", the group offers 13 tracks featuring sultry vocals and jazzy, adventurous six-string stylings. The instrumentalists' impressive chops are vividly displayed on the opening track, "The Theif", a sax drenched funk blast that brings to mind '70s TV cop-sho w themes like "The Streets of San Francisco". A sprawling, one-hour disc, A Personal Soundtrack was smartly produced by Nathan Lorch and recorded and mixed by Roger Swan at City Studios. - Steve Newton, T he Georgia Straight› |
