Artist History Reason for Ruin is a high energy burst of inovative rock.Their music is loud, energetic and raw with soulful undertones. The driving rythm section consists of Sam MacDonald on bass, and Chris Martin on drums. They began playing together in 1996, in a simple recording session at a friends house. At the time Sam had been writing riffs with guitarist Jim Vangalder. The three hit it off so well musically, they just couldn't let it rest. They continued to play, on and off, until running into old time friend, Zac Lake. Lake ignited the fire adding the unique vocal sound. Soon after they found themselves in the studio recording their first three songs. They sent a copy to the "Sony Music Battle of the Bands, Demolisten derby." And found themselves taking FIRST PLACE, which got them featured on the SONY MUSIC website. With confidence in their live tunes, they began playing shows in their home town of Tacoma WA. Even with the few songs they had at the time (only 5 or 6) thier shows became increasingly popular and they soon developed quite a following. Regardless of their short set, the crowds loved them. They went back into the studio to cut "Short Bus Dave" and "Structure Breaks" to complete the 5 song EP, US & THEM.(which is available through the band at 900secondmusic.com) In December of 1999, Jim anounced he would be leaving the band due to 'creative' differences. (in walks Jules Nickel) Jules had been playing in a band in Bellingam, WA when a friend of the band told him of Reason For Ruin and their need for a guitarist. Having seen their last show, Jules agreed to try them out. One practice later, Jules found himself moving in with Zac to start what is now, REASON FOR RUIN. With no regrets as to how they've gotten here or where they've all come from, Reason for Ruin's music and commradery is stronger than it's ever been. The recent changes seemed to have rejuvinated the entire band and the fans that swarm them at every show. With plans to record a full album in May, the boys are now hitting the road as often as they can. You can see them playing in Seattle, Tacoma, Portland and Eugene with more shows being considered every day. Keep an eye on the concert calendar so you can hear for yourself.
