    Artist History
The story is this... Singer/songwriter/guitarist, Billy Fadel is introduced to singer/songwriter/bass guru, Junior Scott by a mutual friend. The two hit it off and recruit Billy's longtime comrade, drummer, Jason Boling. A band is born. But what to ca ll it... Sitting about trying to come up with an appropriate name, Junior's foot tall cockatoo keeps annoyingly repeating his name loudly, "Philo, Philo, Philo." It dawned on them, how appropriate... But what kind of music to play... Billy is into s inger/songwriter americana, as well as alt-country and psychedelia. Junior is well rounded with his love of jazz as well as reggae, motown, and heavy metal. Jason listens to swing, funk and hard hitting rock. All three share a love for experimental ti me signatures and oddly crafted melodies. A happy medium is found...many styles, many sounds, always pushing themselves and the envelope. This is PHILO... ˇˇ

    Press Reviews
"I'm all about embracing musical diversity, but that usually means throwing a few different discs in the CD changer. It doesn't usually mean finding random styles blended on one album, or in some cases in one song, unless the latest album from Austin rock trio PHILO is a part of that mix." J. Pollack, Insite Magazine, Austin TX "PHILO is one radio single away from the college town word-of-mouth uprising that has sent R.E.M., Better Than Ezra and The Dave Matthews Band into the pop stratosphere." G. Wid mer, The Reveille, Baton Rouge, LA "PHILO's self-titled E.P. consists of 8 songs, which appear to be seamless when listened to in entirety, but also make excellent songs when listened to individually. PHILO E.P. is a trip through different styles and g e nres that will leave you wanting more. " Amazon.com "An impressively diverse palette of songs and sounds that run the gamut from heavy modern rock to mariachi and all places in between." M. Chamy, Austin Chronicle, Austin, TX "PHILO are an aerial fli gh t of influential feel as they pan handle bouts, resembling Firehose vs. Man or Astroman? in the CD openers "intro," and "Straw" and adjoin a touch of post-dramatic softness. PHILO go to great lengths to ensure a different beat is supplied to EVERY song. N o repeat patterns here. I would willfully subject myself to larger amounts of PHILO. Send more..." T. Ryback, Liquid Magazine, South Bend, IN "PHILO - The most unlikely band to come out of Austin, Texas in quite a long time. Their musical diversity c onst antly leaves you guessing exactly what kind of band that they are." M. Andrews, U.K. Progressive, Houston, TX "If you haven't heard of PHILO yet, you need to crawl out from under that rock and look around. Signs of PHILO are everywhere and they're d evelo ping a unique sound that just might break out into an impressive commercial venture." Dianne Finley, The Chautauquan, San Marcos, TX "So how is an ambitious trio of up and comers supposed to seperate themselves from the pack? If you're PHILO, you d isting uish yourself by exploring and integrating as many sounds as possible." B. Whitley, Planet Weekly, Jackson, MS "The CD, titled PHILO, is exceptional. "Straw," "Too Late," and "Forgetful" are just three of the eight tracks. But these three in parti cular i llustrate the dimensions of Fadel's voice. This is a CD that everyone should add to their collection. And this is definitely a band that everyone should check out live." J. Childs, The Galaxy, San Marcos, TX "The band's many styles and sounds con tinue to push the musical envelope. PHILO has discovered a content balance in their interests and a one-of-a-kind sound." L. Follmar, University Daily, Lubbock, TX "The trio infuses horns on a couple of songs mixed with charismatic vocals and twinges of reggae, rock and bossanova." V. Garcia, The Free Press, San Marcos, TX "Taking influences as disparate as Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, and Radiohead, PHILO makes a thoroughly modern combination, with random snippets of ambient sounds woven in throughout t heir mus ic." J. Mark, Oxford Eagle, Oxford, MS "PHILO plays a unique blend of music that just has to be heard. The CD is great, and it is hard to select a favorite song." San Marcos Daily Record, San Marcos, TX›
