Artist History
The story began on 31/12/91 with the birth of the band Suppuration. After two releases the band changed their name to Crystaline Darkness. In 1994 the members got together and recorded the "Twilightfall" demo under a new name which was finally set as NOKTURNAL MORTUM. Early into the following year the legendary "Lunar Poetry" demo was recorded. The release attained the band a cult status due to it's mixture of melodic pagan black metal with influences from such bands as Celtic Frost. In the summer of '96 the second album "Goat Horns" was recorded (originally released in Spring of '97 by MetalAgen on MC) and in December of the same year, the "Return Of The Vampire Lord" EP was recorded. It included a brand new title song plus two songs from Crystaline Darkness ("Mi Agama 'haz Mifisto", "Crystaline Darkness"). This EP was originally set to be released by MetalAgen Records as a split-MC with Lucifugum Ukraine), but the band decided to sign with The End Records because the label gave them the opportunity for worldwide promotion and exposure. The next step for the band was the recording of "To The Gates Of Blasphemous Fire" and the "Marble Moon" EP which included the Ukrainian folk song "Lastivka". "To The Gates..." was released in March of 1999. More extreme and elaborate than its predecessor, it established them as a force to be reckoned with in the black metal scene. Soon after the release of "To The Gates...", they started working on the next album. Those were volatile times for the band as they lost one of the main members (Karppath). Turmoil was also shaping up in the whole state of Ukraine. Thus Kniaz Varggoth felt a twofold purpose in writing the new album; his hatred and loathing for the corruption that was sweeping through Ukraine coupled with his longing for the ancient glory (and roots) of what his nation used to be. This twofold aspect is quite obvious by listening to the new album - in one hand it is dark, aggressive filled with violent and raw emotions; and on the other it is complex, layered with timeless eerie Slavic melodies. To further captured the Slavonic spirit the band utilized the skills of a complete folk orchestra (some of the instruments played on the album are over a thousand years old) with the majority of the songs sang in Russian. The album is set for release on July 4, 00 through The End Records. There just couldn't be a more suitable year than 2000 for the arrival of NOKTURNAL MORTUM "NeChrist" (Antichrist). The era of eternal evil darkness is now coming forth. |
