The dynamic HOLLYWOOD KLEZMER (also known as The Brandeis-Bardin Klezmer Ensemble) performs traditional klezmer with a unique fusion of Middle Eastern, Sephardic, jazz and classical sounds. From TV shows Beverly Hills 90210, Party of Five, The Chabad Telethon and KCET's Annual Holiday Celebration, to the Hollywood Bowl?s children?s concerts and West Hollywood?s Pacific Design Center, the ensemble thrills audiences of all ages. Each musician in the group is a star performer in his own right, plucked from the top Hollywood recording studios and international concert circuit. With its roots in Eastern European Jewish culture, this World Music group entertains, educates and uplifts audiences with its joyful celebration music. Leo Chelyapov (clarinet, soprano saxophone & accordion), Jordan Charnofsky (guitar & mandolin) and Larry Steen (acoustic bass & fretless electric bass) are founding members of the band. Under the mentorship of Executive Producer David Low, the group was formed in the summer of 1993 at the Brandeis-Bardin Institute in Simi Valley, California. The group is honored to be the resident music ensemble at The Brandeis-Bardin Institute. HOLLYWOOD KLEZMER is in top demand across the U.S.A. for concerts, celebrations and benefits at synagogues, universities, elderhostels and exclusive special events. The ensemble continually performs highly entertaining and educational concerts forpeople of all ages. The members of HOLLYWOOD KLEZMER serve as ambassadors of Jewish culture by preserving and sharing authentic Old World Jewish music in a contemporary society. In addition to perpetuating traditional Yiddish culture, the musicians have created newworks by incorporating the true klezmer roots of American jazz and swing into their repertoire. They also explore a myriad of World styles, making their collaboration a truly international Jewish music ensemble. Based in Los Angeles, California, HOLLYWOOD KLEZMER is available in a variety of configurations for featured concerts and exclusive, private engagements anywhere in the world...from L.A. to Odessa!
