BLACK BETTY
BIOGRAPHY
Add a musical blend of Punk Rock street lyrics along with rusty raw Industrial and Progressive sounds and a pinch of adventures production.…blend it all together and you get the formula of a “Unique and introspective sonic ballet”.
Railing from North Florida’s grittiest underground, Black Betty stake his claim in music by bringing a grimy, ‘dirt under your fingernails’ sounds. Black as been performing writing and producing music since childhood. “ I played a lot of gigs and learn a lot about what not to do. I was clueless in those days I just wanted to be a star. I just thought one day someone would come into show and sign me.” After years of struggle and what seemed like defeat Black moved to Florida. “Yeah I had just about given up when I met Tim Farmer while Taking classes at FCCJ in Jacksonville.” We hit it off as friends and I came up with the name Black Betty from reading a book by Mark Mosley about a black hooker. The rest is history.
The group was formed in the late 90’s by Black, who is known to many as a former member of Andrew,
Playpen, and Flaming Banana’s successful regional Acts from Austin Texas and Tampa Florida. “When I first put the group together we had five members. Originally Glynn Thacker did most of the vocals. Glynn left the band in 99 and at that point I had no choice really but to sing “ We took off really quickly and the band lost direction, but now I am happy with what I hear …I have a strong fan base that has stuck with me.”
Black Betty has also collaborated with Syn- V of x-sister –z. on the single” I can’t explain”.
Recorded vocals with Jackyl and Hyde as well and performed guitar for the independent Rap release “Mobolgy” released on Blackhouse University Records as well as collaborations with Voodoo Tribe, Sinister Robots and Orlando trio Loulu. Black Betty has received much love and air- play from 9.33 planet radio in their hometown of Jacksonville Florida. “I love “More Like Christ ” Great song”. J Cumbie 93.3 Black Betty has been hail as the “…most original writers in Florida.” Scott Weiser of Jackyl & Hyde (Hallucination recording artist) says of “More Like Christ”… (Recorded @Blackhouse Studio) “Best gothic anthem I ever heard”. Not surprising reviews when you consider the poetic artistry behind each image driven phrase and hyper developed rhythms.
