Artist description
Spawned from the depths of Staten Island, New York, a place best known for the biggest garbage dump on the East Coast and a pit stop between the bright lights of the big city and the Jersey Shore, Arthur Kill has risen to become one of New York City's best kept little secrets.
Originated by lead singer Ken Munson, Arthur Kill has patiently awaited an opportunity to deliver their sound to the world. With this latest CD, Addiction, they believe their time has come. "Music has come full circle and it is a perfect time for us right now. The rock scene is flourishing again and our style and sound is just what the doctor ordered," says lead singer Ken Munson.
Arthur Kill consists of Ken Munson, Rob Petillo - drums, Mike Petillo - guitar, Rob Kudyba - guitar. The chemistry of the band is the glue that holds them together, with Rob and Mike being brothers and first cousins to Ken Munson. As Rob Petillo says, "We are kind of stuck with each other, I don't think anyone else would put up with us - but we have to, as they say you can pick your friends but not your relatives."
The new CD, Addiction, produced by Mark Berry (Attack records, Cherry Lane Music) is due out in stores in October 2002 and the first single, "It's No Good", is a grinding hard rock version of a great Depeche Mode classic. The CD consists of ten songs that jump out at you and claw at your skin. The lyrics are in your face, the guitars are huge, and the sound is monstrous. Mixed into all of this are melodies that just keep coming, song after song. "Our main focus was to create something that was a perfect representation of where we are today in our lives, so it was important to me to write lyrics that were intense, meaningful, and saying something," says Ken Munson. "We wanted this to be big, powerful and nasty. Rock music, when it is good, should be angry and sometimes healing, and I think
that is what this record is."
When you listen to this CD you will hear an original sound, something that no one else is doing. "We have so many different influences, from U2, the Police, Springsteen, to Bands like Rage Against the Machine, Pearl Jam, Guns and Roses, Nirvana even Metallica, that I don't think you can say we sound like one thing. We just want to make great music," says Rob Kudyba.
The other thing that will set this band apart from the rest is their live show. Arthur Kill can really deliver the goods on stage. Just read some of the quotes about their performance skills: Bea Flat, Aquarian Magazine - I am not a huge fan of East Coast rock 'n' roll, so I was taken aback when I walked away impressed as hell. What impressed me the most about Arthur Kill was their performance skills: They really know how to create a stir with the audience." Ed
Trunk, DJ 102.7 WNEW, NY - "Arthur Kill has a great mix of crunch and melody and a great live show; they
really work hard on stage."
Their objective every night is to peel the paint off the walls and then soothe your soul. There is a little bit of good versus evil in their performance and it makes for an interesting contrast on stage. Most of this stir is caused by frontman Ken Munson, the consummate performer staying in constant motion, burning tons of energy on stage. "It is important to me that the crowd feels like they were just entertained - that means I am doing my job,” says Kenny.
Although it is obvious that Arthur Kill loves performing live, when you get right down to it, it is the songs that will set them apart. Arthur Kill writes in a way that bands do not anymore. The choruses explode in your face with hooks that keep you singing. Just when you think you have heard their best song, they hit you with another.
Arthur Kill will be taking their show out on the road in 2002 and 2003, touring America and Europe, giving everyone else a chance to see what NYC already knows: Arthur Kill is for real. So look for them this year at renowned rock venues around the world, and listen for the new CD, Addiction, as it pervades the country on rock radio.

Artist History
Arthur Kill is the personification of rock music heading into the new millennium. The band is: Robert Petillo, on drums; Mike Petillo, on guitar; and Ken Munson, on vocals. Lead singer Ken Munson originated the band in the spring of 1994. Since then, Arthur Kill toured the club circuit playing at all the major venues throughout the East Coast. As a live act they are known to be one of the most exciting groups on stage. Bea Flatte of The Aquarian Magazine wrote in her column in July 1994 "Arthur Kill is one of the most exciting bands I've ever seen, without a doubt the best East Coast Rock Band out there today." Arthur Kill is a Staten Island, New York based rock band and has taken part in Staten Island Borough President Guy Molinarios free Rock Concerts in the Park series every summer since 1990. The theme of the shows is to feed the hungry. All fans are asked to bring canned food. In 1996, Arthur Kill drew 7500 people eager to see New York's most promising band. Arthur Kill has recently signed a record deal with Mega Entertainment Records which is based in Detroit, Michigan. The new album entitled ANOINTING THE SOUL is scheduled for a summer 2000 national release. The album consists of 11 tremendously powerful rock songs and 60 minutes of pure rock magic. In a day and age where everything is about shock rock, shock jock and shock TV, Arthur Kill is a no frills band-- only about the music. In the summer of 1997, Corbin Brown from Rock Review quoted Arthur Kill as "a heart pumping, ass kicking rock band". There are no limitations on what this band can achieve as we head into the next century. With a great live show and a refreshing rock sound, ARTHUR KILL WILL BECOME A BAND FOR THE AGES! |
