Artist History
Well, let’s see.. Andromeda was first formed I believe in about 1980. Derrick Higley (my cousin) had an acoustic & got me inspired to get me (Phil Lafeen) one & learn to play. I was probably in about 8th or 9th grade & Derrick was 1 grade ahead of me. So, that was the beginning of Andromeda.. Derrick & I writing songs about the wind, land, birds & whatever came across our minds at the time. We then coaxed our good friend Charlie Leech to buy a guitar & Bass guitar & learn to play, which he did.. & then there were three… We did many “live” recordings from the basement of my moms house in Kearns, Utah (which is where we all lived.. Kearns, that is, not my moms basement) Then in about 1982 Charlie kind of phased himself out of the band. (To this day, one of my bestest friends) Then came the revelation… DRUMS! We’ve never heard of them before.. & KEYBOARDS! & HARMONIES! Some of the many talents of Chris Bennett… to this day, my biggest influence on my music! Chris & I bought a new 4-track recorder & recorded many tunes until about 1987 or so.. Derrick graduated in 1983 I believe & Chris & I in 1984, so we started going our separate ways. (Just like the “Journey” song)…Anyway, the songs on this site are ones that Chris & I have dug up from the depths of hell. (better known as “the basement”) And thought we’d share them with whomever is interested.. Phil Lafeen |

Press Reviews
My mom said we were good. Bruce (Chris's brother) seemed to like us. ***** // I happened to catch your page at MP3. Listening to your stuff brought back a lot of pleasant and not-so-pleasant memories of the 'basement' bands I was in in high-school and college. For the time period, you guys sound pretty good. I was particularly impressed with the production quality (obvious equipment limited artifacts, aside). I'm pretty sure that everybody who did this sort of thing as an avocation while they were growing up would appreciate it. I'm going to suggest some sort of retrospective look at musically growing up as a feature article for _Recording_ magazine. All of us who regularly write for the rag have had similar experiences, I'm sure. It might be neat to do some kind of nostalgic look at what our studios were like when we were growing up, and those learning experiences we had. Thanks for the music.Moss Parker |
