Artist description
The Waking Hours are a sonic pop blast influenced by early English pop, punk, garage rock and even glam. Their sound is a tight fusion of elements from each genre. It isn't uncommon to hear Queen-like harmonies dancing over rock riffs nor is it unusual for Beatlesque melodies to co-mingle with raw punk style guitars. This is a band who churns their influences into a combination of soul and aggression and stick-in-your-head melodies, and comes up witha tonic of amped-up pop that leaves you wanting more. |

Press Reviews
CDNOWIn this age of boy bands, pop nymphets, and rap-metal hybrids, it's nice to heara real rock-&-roll record every once in awhile. The full-length debut from Richmond, Virginia's Waking Hours is classic rock in thepurest sense of the term -- 12 watertight cuts that bear traces of the Beatles,Mott the Hoople, the Flamin' Groovies, and the Jam, served up with a modernpop-punk sheen and garnished with Chuck Berry licks. Guitarist and lead vocalist Tom Richards handles most of the songwriting chores, while fellow six-stringer Ricky Tubb complements Richards' output with a fewtuneful creations of his own. Songs like "I Got You" and "Picture Show" jump offthe disc with a forcefulness that most contemporary punk bands would envy, yetthey radiate a joie de vivre that's completely absent from most late-'90s music. If you've forgotten what exactly was so great about bass, drums, and twoguitars, the Waking Hours will be more than happy to remind you.Dan Epstein |
