Artist description
Our name, Masala, is an Asian (Indian) word that means “a mixture of spices”. We believe this name truly represents our diverse image, as well as our variety in musical styles. If you listen to our music, you will hear a wealth of influences from Toad the Wet Sprocket and 10,000 Maniacs to Fleetwood Mac and Jars of Clay, blended into a unique and pleasing final product. Although it is somewhat difficult to generalize all of our music, we can be described as having a pop and folk rock sound (pop rock). |

Press Reviews
The band, which takes its name from the spice mixtures that flavor Indian food, has a crisp folk-pop sound with several lead singers. The best of them is Alice Au, who sounds like a younger, more on-key Natalie Merchant. In this age of self-indulgence, where every band feels compelled to fill up every second of those 70-minute CDs, whether they have the material or not, Masala’s nine-song debut disc clocks in at just under 32 minutes. - Larry Nager for the Cincinnati Enquirer Newspaper |
