    Press Reviews
glass of juice ...just another computer generated image of the war against popular music (cdr from odd productions/rainbow of goodness) this came unexpectedly in the mail, along with some other cool stuff, from Rainbow of Goodness just today, and i haven't been able to get it out of my head since [especially 'icicle recovery program' and 'trials of a cube']. songs are mostly catchy 8 bit video game style silliness, with occaisional moments of thoughtfulness and random noise bursts. very nice to listen to on grey days when you wish you could be outside, or watching cartoons with the sound off. can't wait to hear more, this album was way too short. -d503 ___________________________________Glass of juce “…just another…” cd-r (odd productions)Taking found sounds and noise, goj builds rhythmic sound collage into an ever morphing thrift shop electro, with the fun of a cartoon where all the characters beat each other over the head with blunt objects. ($3ppd) -thumb zine no. 11____________________________________glass of juice's jittery blippy video game anthems seem a bit more rooted in song structure-- but that's merely by comparison. the lines and borders between one section of the song are incredibly fuzzy and virtually impossible to map out as you listen. i think what i said before applies-- no one else is doing stuff like this right now. sure, the majority of the tracks incorporate fairly recognizable beats with recognizable drumkit sounds, and some tracks have at least identifiable reference points in hip-hop, drum&bass, etc. but all manner of samples, twisting grinding and blooping, and cheesy little keyboard lines are layered beautifully atop anything that might've otherwise made sense. the introduction of guitar on a few tracks works incredibly well, primarily because it just doesn't sound like it belongs. in other words, glass of juice certainly aren't encumbered by anyone's expectations of what electronic music should be. if mark can keep up this craft of his, he'll make a lot of those idm kids happy. assuming they have a sense of humor and at least some willingness to embrace the unexpected. you can check out glass of juice's craft on a recently released epl c-30. go for it. -Phila phil autovan
