    Artist description
Damian Montano is an active composer and bassoonist in Los Angeles. He currently pursues his Master of Music degree at the University of Southern California under the mentorship of Rose Corrigan. He graduated cum laude from Rice University under the tutelage of Benjamin Kamins, and has had additional studies with Stephen Maxym, Ray Pizzi, Will Roberts, and Jeff Robinson. Mr. Montano has been the principal bassoonist of the YMF Debut Orchestra and the American Youth Symphony and has performed with the Riverside and Santa Monica Symphonies. He was a prize winner in the 1999 Houston Tuesday Musical Club Instrumental Competition, the 2000 USC Concerto Competition and the 2001 YMF Debut Orchestra Concerto Competition, competing with his original bassoon concerto. He premiered his composition, Canzona and Scherzo for solo bassoon and 13 instruments, with the University of Southern California Wind Symphony, and was also featured as soloist with the YMF Debut Orchestra in this work. Mr. Montano has received numerous concert music commissions, including his Concerto for Piccolo and Contrabassoon, premiered by the Houston Symphony this past November. He will return to his hometown of Albuquerque this April to conduct his ‘Pierrot Overture,’ commissioned and performed by his former high school band for the Independent Schools of the Southwest Fine Arts Festival. He has been featured on interviews as bassoonist and composer on 88.7 KUHF’s ‘Music Matters!’ and 96.3 KHFM’s ‘Classical Caf,’ and ‘Classics for Kids.’ Television commercial credits include music for the political commercial for NM Court of Appeals Judge Jonathan Sutin and music to the PSA for the "Anne Frank in the World: 1929-1945" educational exhibit. Film music credits include the score to the independent film "After Dinner," and the documentary “Moments of Grace.” Theatrical music credits include incidental music for The Knightsbridge Theater’s productions of Charles Dickens’ Ghost Stories and Oscar Wilde’s The Portrait of Dorian Gray. Quentin Dunn of After Dark states “Damian Montano’s original score to Ghost Stories is just one more of the play’s many technical virtues,” and David Nichols of IN Los Angeles magazine hails the score to Dorian Gray as an “excellent composition.” Additionally, he has released two albums exclusively on mp3.com: “Suite from Ghost Stories” and “Voyage - Music for Meditation.” “Ghost Stories” remained in the top three of mp3.com’s Best Selling Classical CD Chart for five consecutive weeks, and music from this album has been featured on Classical 96.3 KHFM.
