Artist History
Amsterdam based Black Knight originates from the early eighties (1982) when heavy metal was at it's peak. Even though they faced a difficult time when the heavy metal scene deflated at the end of that decade, Black Knight stayed true to their conviction. Regardless of any new musical styles that came up and florished, they continued playing 'Old School Heavy Metal'. Their loyalty to the music they love most seems to get rewarded now that heavy metal is back on the rise. With new bands such as Pegasus and Hammerfall conquering high ranks in the European hitparades last year, the time seemed right for Black Knight to finally record their debut album-CD Tales From The Darkside. It can hardly be a surprise the songs on Tales From The Darkside are being associated with bands such as Iron Maiden and Judas Priest. |

Press Reviews
Black KnightTales From The DarksideBLACK KNIGHT ... by hearing this name many vinyl junkies and metal fans get a nostalgic twinkle in their eyes - but in Holland this species doesn't seem to exist. There they don't seem to have ever heard of the Canadian metal legend and therefore a bold as brass young band from the tulip state now trades under this, really already given away banner. After honorary-cheesehead Arno and our quoten-Hollie Stefan are trying quite some time now to shove every Dutch combo as super-cultdown your throat, I really should (as always) sensibly oppose and sober it all up (often in the true sense of the word). But no, this time I do have to share the madness and highly recommend this modern band from the Netherlands. Black Knight simply is too good to be ignored. This debut-CD enchantsheadbangers from every country with their classic metal songs. They elegantly and strongly present their compositions that are both accessible ('Irish Boy' or 'Story Of The Day') and pretentious ('Beware Of The Blind'). Especially singer Pieter Bas Borger attracts attention. With his fantastic voice he does put even more value to this CD. The melodic material of Black Knight doesn't sound like the Trend in metal of the then time (children's songs with heavy guitars), but partly mystical and explained. In their best moments Black Knight reminds of Fates Warning or the heavenly Gargoyle ... just absolutely not of their Canadian namesakes, but we won't take that amiss.© Martin, That's Metal, Germany |
