    Artist History
Singer/guitarist Mark Rhodes and keyboardist Todd MacKenzie formed Channel six years ago in Anaheim, California. In 2002, Channel recruited Billy Holmes on drums to round out the three-piece. Over the past six years, Channel has built a strong, loyal following by performing upwards of 200 gigs and opening for underground and mainstream artists alike. In February 2002, Channel toured as the support band for The Mission UK on the British leg of their AurA Tour; and again in September, Channel supported The Mission on the Southern California leg of their tour. In October, Channel was support act for The Chameleons on the Southern California leg on their US & Canadian tour. And in November, Channel opened for Midge Ure of Ultravox, David J of Bauhaus, and Nina Hagen. While Channel's music is a sound that's very much their own, one can hear traces of William Orbit, a-ha, NIN, Sisters of Mercy, Crystal Method, Depeche Mode, VAST, Moby and Prodigy. Mark's vocals have been compared to Peter Murphy, Morten Harket and Michael Hutchence, which creates a wonderful array of music which is that of Channel. Channel released their first full-length CD, BURNING INSIDE, in early 2000 and 2 CD-Singles in 2001 and 2002 respectively. Since the release of Burning Inside, the band has showcased at a number of events including Universal Music's FarmClub.com television show, the Philadelphia Music Conference and the Make-A-Wish Foundation in New York City. In August 2001, Channel were #1 on the MP3.com Club chart with their song 'Zhang,' receiving over 4,500 hits to the site in one weekend alone, adding to a total of 16,500 hits for the entire site. In early 2002, MTV aired Channel music in national commercials for the MTV Movie Awards and as support music for the show Tough Enough. In January 2002, the band created 'Slate Grey' studios, a rehersal and recording studio in Santa Ana, CA.

The Orange County Register, May 8, 1998Orange Pop, By Robert Kinsler"The territory explored by Anaheim Hills duo Channel has been covered before, but likely never in the exact style of Mark Rhodes and Todd MacKenzie.Although the music is often dark, courtesy of Rhodes' distinctive baritone, harmonica, textured keyboards and sparse harmonies often brighten songs before they plunge too low. There is an intelligence to Channel's work, particularly the lyrical journeys exploring everything from the daily struggle to survive ('Neglect') to the question of what is greater, the journey itself or the final destination ('Found'). The musical craft of Rhodes and MacKenzie results in original arrangements..."The Orange County Register, December 6, 1996Orange Pop, By Robert Kinsler"...several of the groups' work really stands out, with [Channel]...shining on their recording. Anaheim Hills-based [Channel] uses many sonic tricks to spice material, including a ska-flavored beat and harmonica on 'Buy' and a distant piano behind Mark Rhodes' unique voice on the Smiths-ish 'Slate Grey.'"
