    Artist History
Righteous Groove is the product of five long years of hard work. Their influential and cultural diversity enable them to create a distinguishable sound without worrying about not playing within a specific genre. The result is a formula that provides a powerful and energetic musical assault ceating a stage presence that is not only enjoyable, but guaranteed to satisfy audiences. In other words, the live shows are explosive and not easily forgotten. This fact exemplifies the bands focus on creativity and originality. After making the decision to commit financially and emotionally to their music, Righteous Groove recorded their first demo in 1995. It consisted of four original songs that set the foundation for the bands style and musical persona. Their distinguishable funk sound is obvious on “Desert Plains” which is the first song on their demo. The first song on the second side, titled “Slap”, incorporates a funk and rock hybrid and manages to slip in some Latin flavor so common to their home town of Miami, Florida. Another distinguishing characteristic of Righteous Groove is the poetry of the lyrics. “Push”, a beautiful love song uses a colorful description of the torment of rejection and is accented by the change in melodically intensity. Their topics are not limited simply to love and lack there of. In “New Town Old Ways”, Mark sings of the lack of motivation and spread of apathy that is currently spreading through his generation. The meaning is then enforced with a powerful change flowing with rage and concern for society when he sings “...is there no religion...” referring to the need for something to believe in. In December of 1997, the band recorded and released a nine song CD that maintained the same fundamental principle as their first demo tape. A large effort was made to incorporate a “live” feel into the recording while still maintaining a professional sound. Percussion and improvised solos were added in songs like Summerday and Planet To Be Damned to further accentuate the groove in Righteous Groove . The album self-titled Righteous Groove is currently on sale at Vinyl Fever and CD Exchange in Tallahassee, Florida. Now, Righteous Groove is frequently requested on Tallahassee’s X101.5 FM and is played on The Underground Lounge. The songs currently being aired are Searching For My Soul and Summer Day. These songs were selected because of their originality and lyrical meaning and are now found on X101.5’s Locals Only 2.0 compilation double album fearturing Tallahassee’s brightest talent. Summer Day is a song devoted to the experience of leaving home for the first time and moving on with one’s destiny. The second of the two songs is Searching For My Soul. Its a simple song that takes you through a web of melody and beat climaxing with strong changes that further frame a plea for identity.Today, Righteous Groove is joined by Mark Hayes (formerly of Presence) on the drums who has elevated the band to an entirely new musical dimension.
