Artist description
MP3.com artist, Your song has been placed on hold pending resolution of a copyright issue. All possible reasons for this are outlined below. Please read this carefully to determine the exact problem and solution for the song you submitted. If the song in question contains: 1) SOMEONE ELSE'S COPYRIGHTED RECORDING - This would be pirated music, and the only solution is to retire the song and agree to not submit this type of material in the future. 2) COVER OF SOMEONE ELSE'S COPYRIGHTED SONG. The remedy is to obtain a mechanical license from the Harry Fox Agency for any covers or samples. Just fax us a copy of the license when received and the song will be eligible for approval. (Fax # 858-623-7037 Attn: License) (See http://www.nmpa.org/hfa/mechanical.html) 3) SAMPLE(S) FROM SOMEONE ELSE'S COPYRIGHTED RECORDING - There is no minimum length of time for a copyrighted sample to be "OK" to use, contrary to popular myth. Any recognizable sample, no matter how short or edited, is a copyright violation and can potentially expose you and MP3.com to legal difficulties. The most direct remedy is to edit out any questionable samples and re-submit the song. If you used one of the many royalty free loops or samples, then we need you to e-mail or fax us a copy of the terms of use provided by the company or re-mix event that provided the sample(s). *Please include the song title and I.D. # with all correspondence* (Fax to 858-623-7037 Attn: License or e-mail license@mp3.com) Include "Terms of use for samples: Song Title & Song I.D.#" in subject line. 4) SAMPLE FROM MOVIE, TV or RADIO SHOW, VIDEO GAME, SOFTWARE ("You've Got Mail"), RECORDED TELEPHONE CONVERSATION or ANSWERING MACHINE MESSAGE. - As cool as these types of samples can sound, what matters is their legality, and for this reason MP3.com cannot allow posting of material containing such samples) The remedy is to edit out any questionable samples and re-submit the song. If the song in question is on your DAM CD, take it off the CD temporarily till the issue is resolved, so as to not interrupt the CD's availability.
