Artist History
J.J. Rolle, born in Valdosta Georgia, has been performing since the tender age of eight, first in school productions and later in community and professional theatre. Past productions include The King And I, Gypsy!, Man of LaMancha, Fiddler on the Roof, Whose Life Is It Anyway? and The Bad Seed. His Last American appearance was in a six-month nationwide tour with a children's theatre production of Robin Hood in which he played seven characters. As he puts it himself, "the white guy played Robin Hood, and I played everyone else";o). After having seen or lived in all but 14 of the U.S. states, J.J. used his singing and songwritng abilities to transform himself into a travelling troubador, in which capacity he has travelled the length and breadth of Europe. Only twice has he taken time out from his new vocation, once in Amsterdam to perform a cameo role on international television to benefit the AIDS charity RED HOT and again in Nuremberg, Germany where he took a "Small but appealing" role in an outdoor Guerilla Theatre production called King Kong und Die Weisse Frau ("I was neither king kong or the white woman"). As a musician he has worked constantly. Since arriving in Ireland in 1996, he has opened for such international artists as Arlo Guthrie, Doctor John, Midge Ure, Sonny Condell and Scullion. He has fronted his own band performing his own material and is currently recording his first CD, but his first love, acting, is always too strong to ingore. After being recognized as the nephew of the Emmy Award winning actress Esther Rolle, he can be seen(or heard) in the upcoming Dublin Ireland premiere of Little Shop of Horrors as the voice of Audrey II. |
