Artist History
Focus 21 flickered into existence in 1995. Ben Buisson and Tom Grimes met in high school and found that they shared common musical interests. They began writing songs together and unintentionally laid a solid foundation for years of musical construction...and deconstruction. The duo remainded without a drummer until fate sent Jason Caldarera their way. Immediately Jason was amazed and enthused with Ben and Tom's music, and eagerly pushed the band to a more serious level. The years to come were best spent developing their individual styles and growing as musical brothers. It also proved to be a time of experimentation. Tom's constant desire to push the limits of musical interpretation and Ben's long time crave of a second guitar kept things fresh and inventive. Often rehearsal was enhanced by either David Gesser or Steven Hooter, both guitar players and long time friends of Ben and Tom. Eventually Dave was asked to join Focus 21 and the band became a four piece until he moved out of town. Focus went back to being a trio until they agreed that the hole Dave left needed to be filled. Hooter was asked to be a permanent member and has been ever since. In 2000 Focus took it one step further and added a vocalist for the first time since their creation. Isaac Meisenhiemer, a noted New Orleans guitar player added a new element to Focus' already powerful sound. The band, stronger than ever, began playing heavily in the New Orleans and surrounding areas. 2000 also bought the launch of their website on mp3.com and an invitatioon to the AngelCiti Music Festival in Los Angeles. The band returned from Los Angeles somewhat beaten and questioning their worth. These feelings progressed and mixed with inner turmoil. Tension increased between the bandmates and finally in December of 2000 Tom and Isaac left the band. The remaining members of Focus quickly asked yet another friend to fill Tom's shoes. Frog became Focus' new bass player in early 2001 and they have been writing all new material ever since. The band is still growing and is currently making plans to start playing shows and record and album. |
