    Artist History
The Bedroom Heroes were formed in 1999, when three students attending the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), Ryland Bouchard (guitar/vocals), Jake Cohen (bass) and Greg Sextro (drums), teamed up with Tom Nawrocki (guitars), who had been recently transplanted from Miami, where he had previously performed with several bands. They started off rehearsing in lecture halls and dorm bedrooms at the university, but as the band gained momentum, they established a permanent rehearsal and recording studio, affectionately referred to as "The Chicken Farm". After more than a year of painstaking effort, they finally completed Sea Change in December 2001, and launched it on their own label, Swim Slowly Records. After the recording of Sea Change, drummer Greg Sextro made the difficult decision to leave the band to pursue a film production career in New York. Fortunately, San Diego local Bill Haworth came in to fill the role, adding new dimension to the group's continually evolving sound. Bill is actively contributing to their next album, currently in progress.

    Press Reviews
Whittier College Newspaper, "Quaker Campus" Sound Bites, Not that kind of bedroom hero: "Contrary to what one might think upon hearing the term, a "bedroom hero" is not a champion of the sideways cha-cha. In fact, "bedroom hero" is a British term for a person who performs feats of amazing daring and success-- all within his or her head, sitting alone in the bedroom. The Bedroom Heroes first album,Sea Change, sounds like a daydream, a half-finished story. They do emo without crossing over into the land of ugly sweaters and self-pity, a daunting task. Highlights include "June (Call Us Walking)", "Swim" and "In Twilight". The album succeeds in creating a mood of melancholy that is almost physically perceivable. Maladjusted malingerers and music lovers alike ought to check this out. (Erin Clark)" Aaron Coleman, almostcool.org, 'Sea Change' Review: "...Fortunately, there are bands like the Bedroom Heroes who creep out of the woodwork every once in awhile and remind you that hopefully this whole internet thing can work in getting the word out on lesser-known groups. Blending different influences like Radiohead and Sunny Day Real Estate, the group mixes melodic guitars and soaring vocals. They're not quite emo, they never really rock out, and they're a little more earthy feeling than most indie groups, but in 10 songs and almost an hours time they definitely work a pleasant feel." "San Diego band plays reverberating Indie Rock with an elusive hint of earthiness. Radiohead meets Dave Matthews at the year 2020 rock and roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony." -Listen.com "Darkly romantic melodies engulf poetry that broods on post-apocalyptic isolation and alienation. Depressing but definitely original, the Bedroom Heroes produce ghostly harmonies heavy with the impression that far more lies beneath the surface if only you can figure out where to scratch it." --- Dylan Roberts, DigitalCity.com
