Artist History
sist were formed back in 1997 and consist of Simon Gough(Guitar), Martin Hurley (Vocals) and Chris Bennett (Bass) and Steve Holmes (Drums).
Fuelled by their passion for alternative and obscure music, they decided to form a band which encapsulated all of their influences to create an original sound that couldn't be found on the live circuit of their hometown of Birmingham.
The original sound had a much heavier edge than the sist you hear today but the melodies and angular guitars remain as catchy as ever.
sist practiced intensely for 3 years, playing gigs around the UK and gaining a reputation for a great live performance.
Three demos were recorded in this time. The first two were at 'Magic Garden Studio's' with producer Gavin Monaghan and the third at 'Running Frog' in Windsor. Although they captured the sound sist were looking for at the time, they failed to represent the band as well as their live shows did. However, two tracks were picked up and released from these demos. The first was 'Right to Speak' from the Windsor recordings in late 2000. This appeared on hardcore label Lockjaw Record's 'Helping you Back To Work Volume 6' which received a good spread of reviews in the national rock music press, including 7/10 in Metal Hammer.
The second track to be released was 'Broken Mind' from an earlier Gavin Monaghan recording in 1999. The track had been used on the BURBs.co.uk (British Underground Rock Bands) website and was chosen by a German record label to be released throughout Europe on a compilation showcasing British talent. This CD was released in early 2002 and is doing well. A possible German tour is in the pipeline for Summer 2002.
This brings us up to date with the new sist EP. This was sist's first major recording session, spanning over a total of 8 days at Framework Studio's in Birmingham with producer Paul 'Bag' Siddens. Bag has worked with many bands over the years including Napalm Death. He introduced the band to many new techniques and captured a raw and powerful sound that could reflect the sist live performance.
sist left Framework with 6 blinding tracks ready to release and as a much tighter live band. Almost straight away, the first track from the EP started to receive airplay on the Radio 1 Rock Show, getting praise from DJ Mary-Anne Hobbs and being chosen by 'Kerrang!' editor Phil Alexander for his section of the show. Ian Camfield has also featured a track from the new EP on the XFM Rock Show. This can only be a good sign of things to come!

Press Reviews
Chad Driscoll describes sist:"With the sad beauty of ruins, the lush textures and catchy melodies of Sist are informed by a sense of despair. Chiming guitars and moody lyrics keep listeners emotionally drawn and quartered between joy and gloom." |
