Artist description
The gleaming spires of Oxford, home to many of the greatest scholars in the world, and alsohome to some bangin' indie rock! Seren are a four-piece band from the famous city who play an original blend of folksy tunescombined with hard-driving alternative rock. The songs are whoppers, but most reviewers areespecially ecstatic about lead singer Lisa Catling's stunning voice. The fine-looking nineteen-year-old voice has been described in the music press as "a ballsy, gut-busting Grace Slick combined with the soft folkiness of Tracy Chapman." In the course of asong, Lisa alternates between soft whispers, growls and glass-shattering belters, all deliveredwith honesty and emotion.Onstage, drummer Dug Smith pounds the skins like a tribal demon, while bassist James Gostlingholds down the bottom end while jumping about like a spider on a hotplate. Meanwhile, co-songwriter and guitarist Rob Pellow, tattooed and pierced, prowls the stage, coaxing interestinglittle snippets out of his guitar before launching into full attack mode with huge crunchy riffs. As the critics have said, "all in all, a big, meaty, ballsy folk-rock-grunge monster of a band." |

Press Reviews
"Voices like Lisa Catling's are not handed out willy-nilly at birth. They are, sadly, rare. She sounds like a gut-busting Grace Slick, only slightly tempered by a cool Tracy Chapman folkiness. Seren switch between moody contemplation and big ballsy grunge rock: muscular and rhythmic... a big beastly metallic blues-folk monster of a band."- Nightshift magazine. |
