    Artist History
MonsterBox was formed when guitarist Chris Oliveri and vocalist Ricky Woods first sat down to discuss music and found their tastes and ideas were very similar. They both wanted to create a new style of modern, melodic heavy music. Soon after they began working on songs and the beginning of the MonsterBox sound was born. The band worked very hard, rehearsing 4 to 5 days a week to get tight to play live. One of the things the band is most proud of is their live shows, and the ability to really put on a show that reminds people that they ARE at a rock show! MonsterBox has been in the NY club scene doing their own shows at the best clubs in the area and also opening for National headliners. These include: John Entwistle, Gilby Clarke, members of W.A.S.P, Mountain, Pete Best, Zebra, Members of the Howard Stern show, Nils Lofgren, John Waite and Corey Feldman among others. Here is a review of one of our more recent shows: Joe's Garage 10th Anniversary Party at The Downtown, Farmingdale NY 1/28/02 On this night the support was there in good numbers to see strong performances from Ed Ryan, Jareds Cat, MonsterBox, Rainbow Trout, Elastic Engine, Downward, and Status Joe. Glancing over the band listings in the Good Times calendar, it's sometimes tempting to assume that Long Island clubs offer nothing more than tribute acts and cover bands. Here were seven fine original acts to prove that theory wrong. MonsterBox is a band that doesnt sacrifice melody for heaviness. And the reason they don't forsake melody is they are fronted by a singer, Ricky Woods, who can actually sing. Woods has a big, meaty voice reminiscent of former Rainbow vocalist Graham Bonnet, or Judas Priest's Rob Halford (without the falsetto). Woods is an example of how a talented singer can transform good material into very good material. MonsterBox is one of Long Island's best original bands and one we should keep our eyes on. In 2000 the band recorded "One Eighteen", which is our first full-length CD. It blends melody, emotional feel and lyrics that have true meaning behind them.Go to the Audio Samples page and take a listen for yourself! Lately we have been busy writing and rehearsing new material for another forage into the studio. We filmed our first T.V. program which aired in April 2002 and have recently done live guest interviews on some New York radio stations including: WLIR 92.7 NY, WGBB 1240AM NY and WUSB 90.1 NY

Joe's Garage 10th Anniversary Party The Downtown Farmingdale Were doing it to support the scene, Joe DAmato says. When people say ËœThe Long Island music scene sucks, I say, ËœWe are the scene. If everyone comes out and supports these bands, the scene wont suck.
