this jawn is from: http://reviewzxl.com7.7 Featured: Sev StaJB - Total Karnage 2001 - Just Because ProductionProduction: JB, Soundwave D. OmenGuests tik, Derek Law, Soundwave D. OmenLike many rappers without a major label deal, JB is a nice emcee who won't blow up because of piss poor promotion. That's a shame because his Total Karnage 2001 album is actually very good. JB's got a fierce delivary, tight lyrics, and is a good producer to boot. And with all those skills, he really put some thought to come up with a pretty good, well-rounded album. With contrasting styles of production, some songs with personal insight, and some damn good verses this is an album more people should check out than the amount that probably will. JB mixes in some top-notch verses and solid production to make some good songs and the album stays entertaining the whole way through, which is a good 20 tracks and an hour long of play. Lyrical explosions on songs like "Reign Supreme," "Push The Panic Button," and "Your Lucks Up" go well with his fast-paced beats. JB also brings some other pretty much unknown guests for the album, most notable being Sev Statik, who realistically states "the fact is not many heads listen for the lyrics on a release/Too busy mixing they behinds hypnotized by the beats" on one track named "Spit That." JB contends wack emcees only out for money on "War Pt. 2" as he explains that he's in it for the love of hip hop. One of the best cuts on the album is "Portrait Of A Stick-Up Kid" where JB rhymes as a criminal talking about his reasons of doing what he has to do for to eat. The song is laced with simple, head-nodding beat that works good. Total Karnage isn't some LP full of extra flashy music or extra underground, extra "raw" sounding jawn. It's simple just JB saying what he feels and busting dope rhymes. Full of many good tracks like "Put It On 'Em" and "Bring On The Real MC's," this is a surprising good listen and can be played the whole way through. While some tracks were a bit off target; I wasn't sweating "Warning Shot" or "Karmageddon" too much, overall this is a pretty good listen. It's too bad that many will miss out on this talented cat's project. Look for this LP if you can find it, it's worth hearing. Review by David Ellis, March 28, 2000this jawn if from: http://hiphop.simplenet.com JB!!/ Total Karnage 2001 Underground album Content 4.5, Quality 3 Rarely do I receive a "demo-level" album that features an emcee as vocally talented as Albany, New York's JB!! You may remember JB!! (the "!!" is part of his name) from the Sev Statik/ O Barbosa collaboration, "Web Slingin." Though both Sev and O gave spirited performances, it was JB's presence on the song's hook and final verse that dominated the track. Point blank, JB!! has one of, if not the, nicest deliveries I've heard from a "C-Horizon" type of artist.Lyrically, JB!! is no slouch either! Total Karnage 2001 covers a lot of ground, from raw battle joints like "Bring on the Real MC's," to more thought-provoking tracks like "Portrait of a Stick-up Kid" JB!! is solid throughout. He and Sev collaborate on two other tracks of particular note, "Spit That" and the apocalyptic "Karmageddon." But my favorite of the twenty pieces presented here has to be "Your Luck's Up," where JB's vocals perfectly compliment the unorthodox production.Speaking of production, JB!! crafted all but two of the album's tracks, the raucous "Push the Panic Button," and the somber "War Pt. I," both handled by Soundwave D Omen. Total Karnage's sound is solid, but perhaps a little too predictable at times. This is why I like "Your Luck's Up," and even "Open Fire" and "The Outcome," which have JB!! flipping it in an almost Ruff Ryders-like style. With all that said, the album's only real problem is its less than excellent sound quality. Though it appears to have been professionally manufactured, Total Karnage basically sounds like a bedroom/ basement project that was left unmastered. But this is underground hip hop, right? Fans of the grit and grime heard on the early Kemetic Suns and Living Legends albums will have no problem bumping Total Karnage 2001.this jawn is from: http://tha-real.com/reviews/totalkarnage.shtml rated 7 Score Meanings :10 Flawless. A must purchase.9.0 Excellent8.0 Very good7.0 A nice piece of music6.0 Above average5.0 Average4.0 Flawed3.0 Pretty shit.2.0 A hint of quality.1.0 Pitiful0.0 Plain wack. Total Karnage 2001I hadn't heard of JB!! until I read a review of his material online, I then contacted him and asked him if he could send me some material to review for the site. It took a while, but he sent me his LP, and, as you can plainly see, I've reviewed it. JB!! is an emcee who is basically a battle rhymer which I've heard a hell of a lot of lately. That's not an altogether bad thing, but it is starting to get a bit tiresome. JB!! rhymes aggressively well though. 'Total Karnage 2001' is the type of LP which you, most likely, will either find yourself addicted to, or not bothered by at all. I, however, found my thoughts on it, veering over to being addicted, but I didn't quite reach there. From the first track, you'll notice JB!!'s flow tends to be anger-filled. The production, which though isn't acredited (I'm presuming JB!! did it all himself) is consistently well done. From the introduction's transformation into 'The Start Of Something Big' you begin to feel that you'll be feeling the beats, and, as the LP progresses, you don't find yourself disappointed as you continue onto well produced tracks such as 'Spit That,' 'Let 'Em Know' and both parts of 'War.' JB!!'s rhymes, I've found most impressive on the last few tracks of the LP; 'War' Part's 1 and 2, 'Karmaggeddon' and 'Portrait Of A Stick Up Kid.' 'Portrait Of A Stick Up Kid.' is, without a doubt my favourite track on this LP. The production is on point, and the rhymes are too. I'm just annoyed that I couldn't encode it for this review (my CD Rom decided to be a bitch...). The track features a mellow beat, a Biggie/Prodigy scratched up hook and a more laid back JB!! The main tracks which impacted negatively upon my thoughts of this LP were the tracks 'Your Luck's Up,' 'Let Em Know' and 'Open Fire.' Though 'Let 'Em Know' features a dope beat, it, and the other tracks, feature less than impressive rhymes and very tacky sounding hooks. On the whole, I enjoyed this LP a lot. It's definitely worth peeping if you enjoy the sample tracks we have up for you to preview it form. It can be purchased online at Hip Hop Infinity. - Hugz Boss this jawn is from the Hip-Hop Newsletter #57 amaent@sympatico.caJB!!Total KarnageJust Because ProductionsRating ***.5/*****Are u ready for JB? This isn't your happy go lucky Hip-Hop. JustBecause Productions delivers "Total Karnage". "Reign Supreme" is some in your face, we don't give a what Hip-Hop,leading into "Bring In The Real M.C.'s" where JB!! shouts out all youfakes claiming to have skills, bring it on come on! Heavy drum patterns, hypnotic effects, and loud lyrical flows makes songs such as "YourLuck's Up", "Gorilla Warfare", and "Open Fire" worthy of being playedalongside Gravediggaz, Murderers, etc.As with any artist, JB!! is going to need to extend his lyrical contentpast challenging wack emcees and preparing for warfare. An entertaining album for the most part that again makes a mark forJB!!
