Artist description
Rob Dire is a talented songwriter, singer and overall musician. Growing up in a musical family with a mother who is a classically trained opera singer, Rob learned to sing almost as soon as he learned to talk. At the age of 5 he began studying classical piano, which helped to create a solid foundation to build his musical skills upon. After hearing The Beatles' legendary "Sgt. Pepper" album at the age of 6, Rob knew he had to play rock music. As a teenager Rob got his first acoustic guitar, a Gibson Les Paul, and a four-track and began feverishly writing songs of his own. In 1994, having written several albums worth of original songs, he formed the band Brainforest with a few other musicians. In this band Rob played the role of frontman, primary songwriter and rhythm guitarist. Brainforest performed multiple live shows in the Boston and surrounding areas between 1995 and 1996, and spent many hours recording demos before disbanding in 1997. Rob has also performed as an occasional guest-singer with other Boston area bands, including female guitarist Jaye Foucher. In December of '98 he began to work in the studio with engineer Shaun Michaud on demos for a solo project. Rob's music is eclectic and modern and highly original. Sometimes mellow, sometimes heavy, it combines some elements of electronic sounds with acoustic and electric guitars and memorable vocal melodies. His early influences included everything from Chopin and Bach to showtunes his mother used to sing. Other influences can easily be heard in his songwriting: The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Garbage, Stone Temple Pilots, and Concrete Blonde. In fact, he has been called "a promising young talent" by Johnette Napolitano, frontwoman and bassist of Concrete Blonde. Currently, Rob is still writing and recording demos of new material for a full-length CD he hopes to release within the next year. He is also looking for band members to play with live to help support and promote the music to achieve his ultimate goal: making a living doing what he loves. |
