Artist description
The best way to describe this New England based quartet is to conclude that it is the bastard child of all of the rock and roll groups that have utilized the multi vocalist approach to achieve legendary status. They combine the brilliant pop craftsmanship of The Beatles, the otherworldly mystique of Pink Floyd, and the raw earthiness of such American artists as The Band, The Eagles, and the Grateful Dead to forge a sound and vision that is once timeless, limitless, and distinctly their own. It features a tough and homespun live sound that touches on many different styles, but never loses the plot. The gritty, brash guitar sound created by BART PRICE is sweetened by PETER HOOGERZEIL's pop merry-go-round of vintage keyboards. Along with bassist MIKE HOOGERZEIL and drummer JASON PARKER, they conjure up a fluid, yet unrefined energy that provides the vehicle for the band as vocalists to travel through vast musical styles on their own terms. |

Press Reviews
Bonnis Herd seems to get around. Performing in all parts of the country this band is poised for continued success. A versatile group with multiple vocalists, I like how their music can change styles yet their sound remains the same. I heard a very soulful, rootsy, type sound on this album much like a Doobie Brothers and other '70s soul rock bands. A five piece group complete with keyboards, Bonnis Herd writes very sophisticated arrangements and songs that flow nicely. Though some vocals are better than the others, I think multiple vocalists do work and I'm starting to here more of this approach. Bonnis Herd knows how to really jam and rock. I also "herd"(!) some heavy Queen influences with the spacy keyboard work. Bonnis Herd reminds me of the 70's style rock bands that fused progressiveness and roots type music together for some real gems, i.e. Supertramp. This is a serious band with lots of talent and really good songs. I liked "A.M.I.," "Radar," "Haunted Heart," and "Cold War." Nice Job!- Double A, Boston Soundcheck Magazine, September, 2000 issue"...the real difference with the Bonnis Herd sound, and it is a good quality sound, is in the band's uncomprimising homage to straight-up classic rock, from the Stones ("Nobody By Me Nowhere") and Neil Young ("A.M.I.) to the Band ("It's not My Fault"). Througout the recording there's an undeniable emotional investment that's nicely captured...They're a good band with some good songs." Bob Gulla, Providence Phoenix, 2-24-00 |
