    Artist description
The New Orleans Brass Band is perhaps the most untapped, under-appreciated and underestimated musical vehicle in the modern world. An entirely acoustic horn-ensemble capable of producing sound that carries through dozens of city blocks (read: block parties) with melodic instruments engaged in a constant dance with the pre-boom/bap of bass and snare. The horns are at once independent and collaborative, frequently exchanging roles - here a solitary tone, there a powerful harmonic unit - while the backline constantly pumps the most raw beats that three humans can be held responsible for. The Escola do Samba in Brazil possibly match this volume, this intensity...utilizing upwards of 200 players. For nearly two centuries New Orleans Brass Bands have combined aspects of almost every musical culture represented on the planet with little or no notice taken by the world community at-large. It is probably the most well-preserved musical tradition in America, yet the Brass Band as a diasporic phenomenon is virtually unheard-of and unbroadcasted by all mass-media outlets, not to mention institutions of higher learning. New Orleans Brass Bands are the treasure buried in the world music community’s collective backyard. YoungBlood Brass Band is not here to wake people up to New Orleans, though that cause is noble enough. YB is here to play music. Music that moves you. Your head, your mouth, your feet, your ass, your brain. Each member of YoungBlood brings distinctly different life experiences to the sonic table, different takes on what’s going down. What should go down. What needs to stop going down. All this through six horns and two drummers? Yeah, you could call it ambitious, optimistic even. But they don’t care. YoungBlood will be making the music they love for the next thousand years into eternity. By combining aspects of brass band, hiphop, afro-cuban and jazz culture, they have created something truly never heard before. Sit back, enjoy, nod your head and Unlearn.

    Artist History
Founded in 1994, the YoungBlood Brass Band was originally comprised of students from the same high school. Over the years, as the band members aged, the band evolved musically. After catching the New Orleans bug from such renowned groups as the Dirty Dozen and the ReBirth Brass Band, the YoungBlood Brass Band decided on one goal - throw the best parties around. After doing so for 6 years, this powerful ensemble recorded their debut CD, which received much acclaim from the Midwestern music community. Now expanding their musical horizons to include aspects of Hiphop, Afro-cuban, and Urban music, the YoungBlood Brass Band is gaining momentum once again. Buckle your seat belt and hang on tight, 'cause this ride won't stop for nothin' short of the top.

“YoungBlood Brass Band transcends mere homage...sprinkling references to The Warriors and hiphop’s legacy, while also tipping the hat to Kermit Ruffins and Afro-Cubanismo. Word to your cultural mother.” - Peter Scholtes, Minneapolis City Pages “By Saturday, (SxSW) festival goers had hit their stride and were already sharing stories of their major findings. Among those noted was a late night performance by the YoungBlood Brass Band from Madison, Wisconsin, an unsigned band that amazingly combines Mardi-Gras sounds with hip-hop jams and cooks up an irresistible gumbo of flavored music.” - Consumable Online Music Magazine (www.consumableonline.com) “Brilliant.” - Joann D. Ball, Event Review, South by SouthWest 2000 “...[YoungBlood Brass Band is] the show of the week any week of the year.” - Lincoln Journal, Lincoln, NE “It’s a cinch that YoungBlood Brass Band will soon be seeing national attention...” - Tom Laskim, The Isthmus, Madison, WI YoungBlood Brass Band is the reigning New Orleans, LA Mardi Gras 2000 Battle of the Brass Bands champion.
