Artist description
These are the Smoke Daddys, the hottest blues band in the Tri-State area. "...The Smoke Daddys assume a bitter edge to tough covers. Their music is infectious and the members are true and straightforward, with an attractive dose of humility. |

Press Reviews
The Smoke Daddys new release lives up to the band's moniker.... it's smokin'. The band is made up of very able musicians who have formed that extra-tight-tight groove that only comes from endless gigging and rehearsal. These guys are dedicated to their craft and it shows. The 'Daddys' are Luke Alvino on vocals and very funky harp, Joe Vicino on guitars and the very solid rhythm section of John Dunn on bass and Tony Moccia on drums. Kicking off this raucous collection is the down and dirty "Ms. Molly's Back In The Room," with it's SRV style guitar and authentic harp taking the forefront as the rhythm section provides a solid and tasteful foundation. This description pretty much fits the rest of the cuts on this disc. The second cut "Too Much" is slightly more polished with a jazzy feel but eventually they get down to the blue roots while maintaining a funky and fun sound. They get so down during the slower "44 Blues" it sounds like the band is musically slithering like a snake. This song is bound to go down as a classic.I felt like it was time to hit the bar when I listened to "Club Soda," with its' authentic roadhouse sound. They even threw in a ballad with the fifth track "We Once Knew," where Luke Alvino got to stretch those vocals chords on a more romantic tune that includes an outstanding solo by Joe Vicino. But it's hard to call just one of his solos outstanding from another... he's on top of his game throughout the CD. I was glad to see that they included their cover of "I Just Wanna Make Love To You" done in their own unique 'Smoke Daddy style'. They also played a nice crisp version of "Hideaway" where John Dunn lead the band through some classic bass-line territory, and does it with style while avoiding to 'overcook' the groove... nicely done to say the least. They start to close out the disc with a slow groove love song blues "Trust In Love," and wrap things up with the grooving "Iron Jam' Where the guys just get down to it on a grooving instrumental. Nice encore to a nice collection of tunes. For information you can check www.smokedaddys.com or call their management at (516) 257-6581. Pick up this disc and check them out for yourself, or better yet go out and catch them live, and bring a disc home with you. Like I stated at the beginning of the article, the guys are smokin' and like it says underneath the logo on the cover of this CD, they really are 100% Flammable. - Matt Griffin |
