Press Reviews
loudnet.com review: Now this is good shit! I got really excited to give this a listen when I learned the drummer for Dead13 was in this band. Those guys were one of my favorite bands for the longest time, only I never heard anything from them minus their demo and split 7" with Down Foundation. Either way, someone told me that Sever is a slow death-ish dark hardcore band, so I was really looking forward to it. And it's good. It's real good! Really heavy, really dark, and extremely brooding. It's also slow and down-tuned to a degree that makes it pretty mellow while still scary if the lights are out. smother.net review: Some bands just don't get it. How many times must we hear the same poor attempts at being heavy and beingeccentric? Luckily, New York's Sever get it. And they get it very right. The basics are all there-aggression, thick guitars, solid drumming and spastic fills and a singer with a mucousy bellow-but it's in the dynamics that Sever really win. Much more than just a heavy band that occasionally cuts the distortion, they weave a tapestry of emotion that involves a listener. For anyone who's forgotten what it's like to feel compelled to listen to an album 2 or 3 times in a row, remember with "Songs of theCrashing." Plus/Minus Records review: Pretty damn heavy ... the distorted bass will do that for you. They seem to be going for the crushing metal feel, with enough room to breath and hear what's going on. Heartattack (magazine) review (of our track on the 4 Corners 7-inch): ... slow and drudgy with ugly sounding vocals. Frenzy Radio (online magazine) review: From Troy, NY this band comes with a style in the same vein as Nile yet with some hardcore roots. Personally, I would describe their sound as Coalesce-style vocals with a death metal overtone. This band definitely has talent... in some parts of the cd they get carried away and go into more 'abstract' stuff. When they do stick to the game its amazing. The best parts are when they throw in the deep death-metal growls with the lead vocals all at a fast and heavy pace. stations.mp3s.com/stations/59/crustgrindpowerviolencehar.html review: Cool vocals and a great sludge sound. |
