Artist description
Composer/pianist Richard Carr, native of St. Louis, Missouri, is a new resident of the Portland, OR area, having recently moved from the French Quarter of New Orleans, where he had been, performing 4-7 nights a week exclusively for the past six years. He brings with him a catalog of six releases (all having been charted on the New Age Voice Top 100), five of which will be available nationally in the early part of 2002.
Carr’s improvisational composition style is full of melodic lines and rich harmonies indicative of the classical influences of the American, Russian and French composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. Additionally, more modern influences as diverse as Mannheim Steamroller, Tangerine Dream, John Adams, Keith Jarrett, Cole Porter, Steve Reich, George Winston, and George Gershwin are also evident.

Quotes from the Media...
"It is quite obvious that Richard is not only extremely talented, but quite well-versed in
the art of telling his musical stories with no words. That is the goal of any instrumentalist
and it is what makes When Soul and Heart Collide a true masterpiece." - Mark
Waterbury, Music Morsels
"Richard Carr’s distinctive and evocative piano solos are finally receiving the recognition
they deserve. Too many pianists in this genre feel the need or are pressured by labels to
add synth tracks to “colorize” their music, but when a pianist plays with this kind of
passion, all of the colors of the rainbow are already there......This is Carr’s fifth album to
date, and he just keeps getting better.....An exceptional album from start to finish, I highly
recommend “When Soul and Heart Collide”." - Kathy Parsons, Solo Piano
Publications
"When Soul & Heart Collide is so full of passion, it is almost embarrassing. Some folks
wear their heart on their sleeve; Richard, however, wears his in his music...He transports
not only the listener, but himself, to a very special place, indeed." - Cindy James,
Producer/Host KRSC "Sunday Interlude" KRSC "Music Interlude"
"One of the best journeys I’ve ever taken without leaving home is listening to An
American Quixote...What a way to think —per chance—dream." - Don Wolff, KMOX
