Artist description
Power Chicken is a four-piece rock n’ roll band whose musical style is probably most accurately defined as “pop punk.” They, however, they dislike such classifications, and prefer to see themselves as rockers willing to play anything that has originality, style, and a thriving beat. The Chicken writes an eclectic mix of tunes, and when combined with their thick instrumentation the result is a sound that truly makes them deserving of the title “sonic heavy weights.” Catchy melodies and smooth vocals make this band a pleasure to the ear while a never-ending spiral of change-ups, riffs, and rhythms serve to stimulate the intellect beyond routine. Power Chicken began playing formally as a band in November of 1994. At that time the four recent high school graduates saw their former musical ventures dissolving and in an effort to create something “better” decided to bring together the “best and the brightest” of their adolescent punk rock scene. Having all grown up in the suburban beach community of Ventura, California the boys knew each other well, and when Power Chicken formed the bonds of friendship grew even stronger. One by one they started heading south for Los Angeles to pursue university educations, but the band continued to practice and perform. By 1997 they were all living together in a house in West LA, and two years later all found themselves the proud holders of Bachelor’s of Arts degrees. Power Chicken continues to rehearse twice a week, despite their busy schedules, and has produced two self-funded studio recordings as well as countless home mixes on their eight-track. Each member contributes to the writing process and their wide tastes and varied interests outside of music keep them constantly pushing forward. Power Chicken’s true love is playing live shows, and their exciting performances convey to varied audiences how much fun it is to be on stage. This experienced band goes the distance in ever facet and their dedication to producing honest, artistic, and kick ass rock n’ roll is indicative of the fine upstanding young gentleman that comprise its ranks. Power Chicken knows how to combine fun with serious expression, and they do it just right. |
