Press Reviews by Michael Gear Staff Writer, Four highly renowned musicians with ties to the Akron area have released a CD of scintillating original instrumental compositions that is certain to be well received both locally and on the national scene. The band is called HATS and the music is an intriguing mix of various Rock & Jazz fusion styles. The guys in HATS are certainly four of the most talented and uniquely experienced players likely to be found anywhere. The members of the Newton Falls-based combo are Joe Hudek on guitar, Dennis Augusta on keyboards, Mike Talanca on bass and John Sferra on electronic drums. Lifelong friends, the HATS debut disc, Sparky Walks Among The Giants, marks the first time the four have collaborated on a commercially available product. The four have collaborated on countless hours of radio commercial jingles before they stumbled upon the concept for HATS quite by accident. According to guitarist Hudek, “We’d be working on jingles and in between started recording jams. We found we had similar musical tastes and back-grounds. We started hearing songs in these jams and just developed it from there.”
