Artist History
Formed during the year of 1994 by Ricardo Matsumoto on vocals, Mario Izzo and Marcos Mello on guitars, Bernardo Andrea on bass guitar and Gustavo Silva on drums, the brazilian band Dipnoi made their first studio recording in 1995, the tape "A good moonza / A better moonza", recorded live to DAT.After a year and a half, during which they played several shows in their hometown, Sao Paulo, and also during which the first tape received favourable reviews on various zines and magazines, the band returned to studio to begin the recording of their first EP in december 1996. A period of low activity followed, during which the band slowly finished recording the EP, that was finally mixed on june 1998.On early 1999, the band returned to studio once more to start recording six new compositions, plus a cover of "Crypt Keeper", a song by the underground band Noison. These recordings have not yet been completed for the band to be able to concentrate their efforts on the independent release of their EP. In the first half of 1999, some months before that record came out, drummer Gustavo decided to leave the band, and the drummer seat was taken by Augusto Moreira, ex-Mother Superior. Finally, in october 1999, Dipnoi is releasing their first EP, FKDDD, with six unreleased tunes and the four songs from their first tape as a bonus. On the beginning of the year 2000, drummer Augusto moved to Recife, in the northeast of Brazil, and the band has been rehearsing with original drummer Gustavo to play the next concerts. Some new songs are also in the making. |

Press Reviews
"DIPNOI: Thrash metal from the future. Imagine a healthy mixture of Metallica, Misfits, Dead Kennedys. Original and contagious"DEATH SLAM INFORMATIVO # 05, january-february / 97 ---- "These guys play very well, and the four songs are well-structured and interesting, and also well recorded. They don’t give away any influences, but I can say that it’s heavy like White Zombie, for an example, without being heavy metal per se" (Rafael Jr. – member of the band Snooze)CABRUNCO ZINE #07, july-september /96 ---- "DIPNOI: Heavy rock, precisely alternating heavy metal and hardcore. Their work is of a high quality and they should be incentivated" (Marcelo Jacoto) DYNAMITE MAGAZINE # 21, may-june /96 ---- "The songs are fast, well structured, and rhythmically strong. Their sound doesn’t resemble any better-known bands, as might be the case with new artists, and this is another factor that will help get this band out of anonimity: their originality" (Flávia Prunes)VIOLATOR ZINE # 06, october/96 ---- (all the comments above were made on reviews of the band’s first tape) |
