    Artist History
When you hear the name Scream Sophie, what kind of image comes to mind? A loud, orgasmic woman? Batgirl on steroids? Guitars that rip your heart out? It's hard to sum up Birmingham Alabama's premiere alternative hard rock band in just a few words. Although at first glance Scream Sophie appears to be a typical hard rock/metal band, closer listening reveals several layers of intensive, meaningful, and often thought provoking music and lyrics that can take the listener on a wild ride of raging rhythms, thunderous beats, searing guitar riffs, and melodic, inspired vocals. Musically Scream Sophie has been compared to bands such as Fuel, Nickelback, King’s X, Soundgarden, Collective Soul, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, and even Godsmack, but they also have a wit about them that is refreshing in a market full of “we're all important” bands and musicians. Yet they maintain a professional attitude and a working class background that separates them from the average bar band. Scream Sophie originated as a recording project late in 1999 when guitarist and songwriter Curt Granger began writing and recording new material. Shortly after beginning the project he enlisted the help of drummer, and recently turned-vocalist/guitarist Timmi 'G' Ward. The two forged a strong songwriting alliance and the Scream Sophie machine was born. Additional musicians joined the duo through a brief period of trial and error, until early 2002 when drummer Joe Kaloc was recruited and the three began truly refining the style of music now synonymous with the name Scream Sophie. Completion of the quartet came in late 2002, when bassist Jonathon Owens joined the band recently, and as they say "the rest is history." Never a band to follow a trend, Scream Sophie combines various elements of old school hard rock and metal with new, alternative-influenced sounds of today. Experimentation is a big part of the songwriting process. Their music can best be described as modern alternative hard rock topped with a liberal dose of psychedelic grungelism. Raging rhythms and thunderous beats combine with razor-sharp guitar lines and soulful vocals to define the band's sound. Throw in a few well-placed samples and weird noises and the sound is complete. Multiple recording projects have been conceived by the union, first being a full-length recording titled "Rhythmic Tribal Ritual," which was released on MP3.com in D.A.M. format. In their second recording the band assembled a collection of their more eclectic, psychedelic material, and released it on MP3.com as the D.A.M. CD "Grungelistic Panderings". The next recording, "Offerings," was the band's debut full-length CD, released in late summer of 2001, and garnered critical acclaim and drew the interest of several record labels, radio stations, and 1000's of new fans across the US. The band's highly-anticipated second full length CD "Secrets in a Jar" is being released in February 2003 and promises to be the bands most impressive work to date. Scream Sophie has achieved several milestones in their relatively young career such as being selected as one of 200 bands, out of over 5,000 entries, as semifinalist in "The Big Deal $100,000 Music Search" sponsored by Mars Music. Their D.A.M. CD "Rhythmic Tribal Ritual" on MP3 has been the number 1 selling CD in the state of Alabama and their music has surpassed the 17,000 play/download mark. Their songs have been featured on websites across the country such as rollingstone.com, garageband.com, homerecording.com, and PopscicleRiot.com, among others. The song "Resurrected" has been selected to be included on MP3.com's compilation CD "Best Alt. Rock on the Net." Being featured on sights such as these has resulted in impressive reviews from sources like In The Pocket e-zine, Digital Extremes and Listen.com. The band was selected to participate in various promotions including "The Good Fight" compilation CD sponsored by WRLR ROCK 97.3, The Nick, and Blackhole Records to help support Children’s Hospital. They were also selected by the Ernie Ball Corporation and played the Van's Warped Tour '01 in Charlotte, NC. Recently they were nominated for best local band in the 2002 Tuttle & Kline Awards by local radio station WRAX 107.7FM. Scream Sophie continues to unleash their live show on more-than-willing audiences. Prior years of experience performing in numerous bands have produced musicians who know how to entertain and work a crowd, yet still reach each audience member on a personal level. A growing fan base, pure determination, and a love of the music is what drives this band to perfection and the quest to expose their musical vision to the world.

    Press Reviews
"Man you kick ass." Dave Uosikkinen, "In The Pocket" MP3.com E-Zine, April 2000. "The music that Scream Sophie creates is nothing short of POWERFUL. It mesmerized me from the 1st note. Strong songwriting abounds and solid musicianship backed by better-than-average production make this a true gem." Gary Johnson, "Digital Extremes," August 2000. "Squealing guitars join with questionable fashion sense in one unified statement of sleazy, libido-enhanced Alternative Metal. Watch out ladies, Scream Sophie is on the loose." Listen.com. "One of the first things that grabs you, aside from the band's incredibly thick and powerful sound, are the fabulous harmonies present throughout the album. The whole album is chock full o' energy from start to finish." Craig Smoot, thetoe.cc, August 2001
