    Artist History
The heavy metal juggernaut known as "The Fury," can actually trace its roots to three seperate groups. Black Krystol, Sweet ETP, and the little known but promising Dawn of Affliction. Parts of these three groups would ultimatley unite to form an evil organization bent on world domination known as C.O.B.R.A. Unfortunately, the acronym was taken by the arch nemesis of the G.I. Joes (America's elite fighting force) and so the quintet changed their name to "The Fury." However, since world domination was not in the nearby future, the five mates have thus been biding their time making wonderful music for all to enjoy. As with most things in life, Black Krystol was formed on friend-from-camp relationship. Gregg Cohen and Rob Blatt formed a rythem section that was, for its time, a force to be reckoned with. Together with guitarist Jon Eisenoff, the small trio put forth a number of demo tapes and did a respectable amount of gigging. While this was going on, singer Jared Morgenstern was quickly falling in love with Ozzy Osbourne. A love affair that would permeate the rest of his life. As his friend-from-camp Dave Starr was just beggining to experiment on the guitar, the two quickly began to jam regularly on old Sabbath tunes. When Morgensterns wailing vocals and inexorable stage presence aquired from years of acting complimented Dave's energetic, if yet un-refined, guitar playing the two would combine to form a fun show stopper at friends parties around the island.Yearning to be in a real band, Jared and Dave were eagerly attracted to Gregg's creative metal-cum-funk bass playing and Rob's ability to pound the skins harder then anybody around. Of course it helped that Rob and Jared had been friends-from-camp for years and Dave and Gregg had shared a friendship dating to the fourth grade. Additionally, Rob and Dave and Jared Gregg were also friends-from-camp.Gregg, was immidiatley intruiged by the idea of injecting new life into the pitifully stale stage show of his present band and at the same time increasing the vocal quality with a singer who'd graced the stages of the Tilles Center and Carnegie Hall. As he and Dave hosted a radio show together, they soon hammered out the details one tuesday evening. While Rob was not thrilled to be giving up the mic, he embraced the chance to focus on and improve his already far-better-than average drum playing. And so Sweet E.T.P. was formed. If Sweet E.T.P. wasn't always a happy band, at least it was fun. Faster and more melodic than its predecessor, E.T.P quickly garnered a large and energetic fan base. There was an excellent on-stage chemistry between all four bandmates that added tremendously to the already intense performances. But E.T.P. was more than just a show, it was about the music. The faster music didn't allow for the outright showcasing of Gregg's creative, often stand-alone bass lines. Yet there was an undeniable chemistry between the playing of Gregg and Dave and the two put lines together in which, to borrow the cliche, the whole was greater than the sum of the parts. A perfect example of this is the fan favourite "Carry On." Although Dave wrote the riff, it would sound truly empty with out Greggs classic bassline. Yet the reason fans dug this song so much was because of the catchy, easy to sing along to chorus. This was the first of many songs that Jared and Dave would write together, forming a creative duo the likes of which the world may never witness again. Although it really all depends on reincarnation...Than, in January 1999 Sweet E.T.P. climaxed when they decisivley won their high school battle of the bands. In a merciless take-no-prisoners campaign of adrenaline rushing, fist pumping, sweat pouring rock n' roll the Sweet Ones ruthlessly crushed the competition and made believers out of a nearly full house of ready-to-take-on-the-world teens and even a handful of adults (useful assets when planning to conquer the world). Soon after, the Sweet Ones began their plans to imortalize themselves with a demo. But like Martin Luther and the Pope, "creative differences" reared its ugly head and shattered the once impregnable empire. Literally on the eve of what was to be the bands first day in the studio, Sweet E.T.P. was dissolved. Their strangle-hold on the music world was loosened, but not for long. The breakup saw Rob go one way as Gregg, Jared, and Dave took another path. Incidentally, that path was to the enigmatic CoDog's house where many wings were eaten, save by Gregg who was only graced by a single wing. And so the mighty Third Triumvirate was now drummerless. And hey, whats a drummer but that guy that hangs around with musicians anyway, right? If only it were that simple. As previously mentioned, there was one last band that was part of the equation. This was the baseless trio known as "Dawn of Affliction." Fronted by the darling of the music department James Annucci, the band featured bright young Justin Starr on guitar. On Drums was the immensly talented, then under-achieving, Evan Shyer.Interestingly enough, Justin had auditioned for E.T.P. a month or two prior to the bands dissolution. While Dave was desperate for a second guitar in the line-up, the attempt was nixed by Rob as Gregg and Jared were slightly in favor of the status quo.It seemed only natural that when E.T.P. was no more, the Third Triumverate would turn to D.O.A. By this point, Justin was arguably better than Dave on guitar and so the group was able to kill two birds with one stone. A second guitarist and new drummer were added in one swift move. But what of Annucci? The silken voiced rythem guitarist had proven himself as a songwriter with his brilliant "In Search of an Illusion," and had further endeared himself to the band with his creative riff that formed the foundation of the sextets first song, "Rise with the Dawn." It was a no-brainer to take James on board. Thus was the creation of the three-pronged guitar attack that was "Odyssey."Odyssey quickly hit the studio a mere two weeks after E.T.P. was originally scheduled to do so with four brand new tracks. All things considered, the band put forth a very respectable demo in a very short amount of time. Unfortunatley, the band gigged but once, and while the show was a hit, the group never truly got back on its feet. Managing three guitars was becoming more and more difficult. Finally, creative differences led to the parting of James from the Third Triumvirate. In defference to James, the band name was dropped, as were any songs that he wrote. Furthermore, Justin and Evans status was rather obscure. They had joined with James and were very close friends with him. This left the remnants of Odyssey scrabling for direction. While the Third Triumvirate certainly was planning to allow James to live when they had conquered the world, one would be foolish to outright abdicate their place of power. This made the decision for Justin and Shyer to remain with the Third Triumverate and part ways with their good friend that much easier. Now that the new line-up was finalized, the band needed a name. Finally they settled on "The Fury." This was their way of paying homage to the great baseball player Carlos Dufus (Carlo DeFeu) "The French Fury." It was also a tip of the hat to the enigmatic CoDog. This is where the band stands now, with a few exciting developments. Evans talents have emerged from great potential to the refined virtuosic. While he may not hit as hard as Rob once did, his creative talents are unmatched. In addition, Justins playing ability has also increased tremendously at the same time he has also matured as a songwriter. As always, Jared and Dave are constantly writing material. In addition, Justin and Jared, as well as Gregg have also been writing. The band is planning to hit the studio this summer. Look for a new demo to hit the scene no later than June, with a tour to follow. As with the First Triumvirate the world learned the name of Julius Ceaser, with the Third Triumvirate heaven and earth shall tremble at the sound of The Fury!Stay Furious!- Publius
