Artist description
Free Spirit is strong rhythm, powerful guitars and beautiful melodies. Free Spirit's music combines elements familiar to listeners with new ideas that reward them even after several listenings. It's melodic, mystic, has powerful guitar riffs and fascinating arrangements. Free Spirit's music is called Desert Sound. It means beautiful sounds from the great wilderness and it's also the essential idea for the band's sound, lyrics and for Free Spirit's whole existence. |

Press Reviews
(Catcy Hooks, Sweden, Wally Wahlström)FREE SPIRIT Easy days1.Cry of an eagle (Video) 2.Cry of an eagle 3.Easy days 4.Pale sister of light 5.Strangers of love (Carpel / 2000 ) Finland strikes once again ? Here´s another band from our neighbors in the east.FREE SPIRIT was founded in late 1992 and has recorded a bunch of demo´s ever since. They like to call their music for "Desert Sound" as it has much to do with "Back to Nature" The Great Wilderness,if you like :The Shaman in us all" New Age huh ? Well..beats me...I do know that they play some pretty cool stuff.Influences are Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, The Doors, Metallica, Cult, Pink Floyd and they do sound a lot like early THE CULT ,some LED ZEPPELIN but also like good old Melodic Hardrock /AOR. This promo disc has the Video of "Cry of an Eagle" included a video that actually have been accepted by US nation wide channel IMNTV and has been in daily rotation for a couple of weeks over there. The song it self is a nice rocker a-la The CULT mixed with some AOR and maybe even a bit of the old Finnish rockers (and heroes) HANOI ROCKS, pretty cool chorus."Easy days" shows their LED ZEPPELIN influences in the verses while the chorus is more groovy and pretty rad."Pale sister of light" is a more straight a head Melodic Hardrock song with a nice chorus.Last but not least the superb "Strangers of love" a mid tempo AOR/Melodic Hardrock song with a catchy chorus.(Strutterzine, The Netherlands, Gabor Kleinbloesem)FREE SPIRIT 'EASY DAYS' (INDEPENDENT)FREE SPIRIT from Finland sent me their new disc 'Easy days'. The CD starts with a video of the song "Cry of an eagle". This great melodic rocker a la AXXIS and ANGEL HEART was also featured on their previous CD, but it's pretty cool to see the video clip of the song again, because it really is an amazing video. The guys really did a fantastic job and I can't wait to see more videos in the future (they are shooting one soon). Anyway, there are also 3 new songs on the CD. "Easy days", the titletrack', is one of them, but this is not really something special. Much better is the catchy 80s typed uptempo melodic rocker "Pale sister of light" (a bit sounding like GARY MOORE's "Out in the fields"). The closing track is the lovely midtempo melodic rocker "Strangers of love". This new CD definitely proves that this is one of the best Finish bands at the moment. A very professional job by these guys and you really need to check them out. (Flash magazine, Italy, Andrea Bertamino)Another melodic band from Northen Europe, Finland for the precision, born in 1992 and author of a series of mini cds and videos. The first track on "Easy days" is the video of "Cry of an eagle" (which had a good exposure on the american channel IMNTV), a fantastic and dragging song of european melodic rock that stand head and shoulders above the remaining songs. The titletrack has hints of Dare, Jethro Tull and Gary Moore, while "Pale sister of light" drives towards melodic and anthemic heavy metal, whose guitar work reminds of early Iron Maiden. "Strangers of love" is the last song and is a very good melodic hard rock that, in my humble opinion, shows the direction Free Spirit should follow in the future. (Majestic Magazine, UK, Fred Monster)With Easy Days Finnish rockers Free Spirit bring us a four-song EP that impresses me quite a bit. The style of the songs can be best described as Melodic Hardrock with influences of bands like the Scorpions, Bon Jovi, The Cult and Led Zeppelin. The EP opens with a video of Cry Of An Eagle. The verses of the song remind me of U2's Where The Streets Have No Name at times, but the choruses are more of a Scorpions affair. After the video we can enjoy the same song once again, but in an audio-only version. The title track has this Zeppelin feel during the verses, but on the other hand the choruses have this typical German Hardrock feel over them. Pale Sister Of Light (my favorite song on the disc) has a strong resemblance of the early The Cult songs while the closing track is a beautiful Melodic Rocker. Free Spirit leaves a strong impression with Easy Days. Sami Alho has a good voice (although he should get rid of his accent a little more) the guitars are nice and crunchy and the production has been done very well, especially for an indie release. I have the feeling we'll be hearing more of this band in the future. (rock4ever.de, Germany, Lorentz Brück)Was die Band aus Finnland musikalisch auf Ihrem Demo “Easy Days” anbietet, ist mit das Beste, was in letzter Zeit im CD-Schacht rotiert ist. Hervorragende Melodien, gepaart mit einem tollen Gitarrensound. Dazu noch die Stimme von von Sänger Sami Alho, und vier ganz starke Stücke, die sofort Lust auf weitere Songs von Free Spirit machen. Besonders gefällt das Stück “Cry Of An Eagle”. |
