Artist History
Julia Groves started her rock career as a drummer, keeping time for Tucson bands like Flavor Cage and Al Perry and the Cattle. She decided to take up the guitar to more readily direct her musical fate. According to Julia, "Clovenhoof was born out of bitterness, spite, and a relentless will to rock." Discarding the traditional methods of forming a band, Groves discovered the Sisters Ritter (aka the Tiny Ones) in the weight room of a downtown YMCA. After testing their durability with a series of lifts, Julia convinced the siblings to take up bass and drums. Ex-Flavor Cage axwoman Kristina Bohn played with the 'Hoof for a few months, and appears on some of their recordings. Musically, Clovenhoof worships at the altar of Iggy's Stooges, Black Sabbath and Link Wray, as well as taking brief dips into the pop sensibilities of Shonen Knife and the Go-Go's, although these latter tendencies do seem to be dissipating with each batch of new songs. Look for Clovenhoof to continue extending their abrasive pop dissonance, low-fidelity rhythm and "War Pigs"-style guitar grind in the future. Note: CLOVENHOOF disbanded October 5, 2001. |

Press Reviews
"As long as bands like Clovenhoof live, rock will never die." - Wildman West, UNDERGROUND SOUND. "...this all-woman four-piece -- dressed up like expelled students from St. Innocence School for Wayward Girls -- make some of the catchiest, hookiest Punk that the law allows....their lyrics revolve around boredom, rocking in Japan and boys, boys, boys. It's fun and kicky, and some of the best Punk/Power Pop you've heard in a long time." - Kali Holloway, LISTEN.COM |
