Artist History
It was the coldest winter in the history of Big Bear Lake. “The winter from hell” we called it, the winter of 1994. It had been snowing solid for six and a half weeks, there was no end in sight, and even though the town was buried under 50 feet of snow (no shit) of fucking course we still had SCHOOL.
Ryan and I (Rich) had been friends since we were 12 years old and we would always walk to school. We could have taken the bus but the bus driver was a 95-year-old three-winged chicken. We didn’t think it was very safe, plus we liked to make a stop at our tree fort on the way and take a few sips off of the whiskey bottle to warm our souls. One day we were jamming some riffs and decided that we needed to start a band, but we needed another guitar player, a drummer and a good name, “how about applesauce, for a name?” I suggested. “Hell no!” said Ryan.
We were on our way to school one day when we heard a cry for help. It was Donald from 3rd period electronics - He was stuck in a tree; it was the largest and only tree in the city (10,678 feet to be exact). We needed to get Donald out of the tree and the only thing around was a downed power line. Donald screamed, “pass me the line, pass me the line”. We both looked at each other and said, “that’s it, theLINE! What a kick ass fucking name”, “fuck ya”, “fuck right on” , “fuck ya, fuck on!” Quickly we threw Donald the live electric line and saved him from certain death. Unfortunately, Don was electrocuted and the shock made one of his eyes crooked. We felt sorry for him so we asked him if he knew how to play guitar. He said yes, we said perfect and he joined the band on the spot.
With myself (Richard Kaiser), Ryan Immegart, Donald Horne and our name (theLINE) all we needed was a drummer. Enter Mike Thompson, but that’s another story…

Press Reviews
Slug magazine said, “the LINE is a band you have to see live. If ever there was a punk band that made it their mission to write complex songs with intricate progressions and arrangements, it would be the LINE”. |
