Artist History
In three short years The Deadites have evolved from a four piece fifties horror garage punk band into a fully loaded, music to fuck yer girlfriend by, three piece Rock'n'Roll machine, complete with their own brand of dark and often melancholy undertones. Formed in the middle of the season of the dead, 1996, the young Deadites, with their boyish good looks, homemade blood capsules, and a whole lotta pomade, slowly clawed their way to the top of the Colorado Springs music underground (or lack thereof). After a breif summer tour, an unreleased 7", seven drummers and at least one baby (that we know of...heh heh) our boys, The Deadites, recorded their hit debut album, "Better Luck Next Time". They released it a mere seven months later on their very own Craptacular Record Company. "Better Luck Next Time" is a howling and nasty first punch, totalling about a have hour of snarling, biting songs of lost love, teenage wickedness, and chainsaw murder (the latter often involving the first) and has thus far remained a steady and constantly rising seller and keeper to the lost souls who have fallin under it's spell. The trio, consisting of recently jumped in skin pounder Shawn Stafford Infection and amatuer Glimmer Twins, Loose Cannon (bass) and Philly Favorite (guit/vox), are in the midst of planning their second attack on earth's jaded and sweaty teenagers, loosely scheduled for a "sometime" release. In the meantime, they have been gigging around with the likes of Fear, The Nobodys, Fang, The Down'n'outs, and The Weaklings to name just a few, and are continually looking for a hole to fuck their way out of the sad prison state they regrettedly call home. Yes, these three pretty boys have cum a long way in a no style / no class town. From the crisp autumn days of monster make-up, stage blood, and teen angst, to the hairsprayed, eyelined, slutty haziness of the endless party the now live and breathe, The Deadites are ready when you are... Press Reviews
THE DEADITES, "BETTER LUCK NEXT TIME" CD. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------Rats in the HallwaySo, I've seen the Deadites live once and only once, yet when I threw this cd in it was like I'd been listening to the songs for ages. There's something there that you can't touch, but it seems to leave these songs stuck in the back of your head. The Deadites sound like if the Dwarves and Ramones and everybody who played UK punk in '77 were shipwrecked on an island and wrote songs in their spare time...Definately sufficient for a Friday night punk bar party.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------La Mala Manzana This is one of the best records to ever come out of this town (colo spgs). The Deadites are a good-ass Punk rock'n'roll (more rock'n'roll than anything else) band that sounds like the misfits combined with Social Distortion. The guitar, vocals and lyrics are outstanding, I think if you go out and check this record you'll agree.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------FLIPSIDE I have lots to say about this record so we'll start at the the top so we're all less confused in the end. Superflous stuff first:1. Snappy card stock and ink choices (i'm partial to heavy black with silver and red), although the inside cover is more attractive than the outside (the cover art- Death himself in a life vest at a maritime disaster, pushing people away with the oars - and a pirate lettered banner are foriegn to me)2. In their adolescents, one Supersucker, one Pistol, and one Descedent looked like a Deadite.3. Swaggery, buzzed and sexy Misfits-y,greaser, psychobilly, punk. Layered, eerie and upbeat, this album reminds me of The Hellbillies, Saddlesores, and New Bomb Turks and some old school.4. Lead Vox sound like Barrie Evans, Mike Ness and Axle Rose, in combination with some influences from the previously mentioned bands.5. Lyrics are creepy mad, bordering on a life time stay in the loonie bin for the criminally insane, some of them excellent observations and just plain good writing (like "roadside assistance" and "monsters are due on maple street"). Until I read the lyric sheet (yay! entertainment!) I thought the lyrics were only partially silly psuedo-creep death/ monster/ serial killer/ ghoul lyrics, but now I realize that EVERY song is like that, I startr to wonder... all fun and games? Or is it? Either way, melodies and choruses like "they're comin for you barbara" make me bop bop bop along.6. The Deadites play their hearts out, and this is a screaming debut album. However, I look forward to subsequent releases since this one comes out swinging but doesn't know where to land its first punch. Deadites: Gun it! Go full throttle! Power! Don't be shy! Cover "sunday mornin comin down" or "alone and foresaken" instead of "folsom prison blues", and keep me posted. I'll be waiting with kisses.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------Ten Things Jesus Wants You to KnowTHE DEADITES Better Luck Next Time CD (Craptacular) Remember when the Supersuckers were good? When they were faster and hadn’t done a country album? When they were a punk band that wasn’t afraid to let rock sneak in, instead of a rock band going through the motions with not enough punk energy? Then listen to the fucking Deadites! Some of these songs totally reminded me of the Supersuckers many years ago. And although the production on this album is a little weak, once I cranked the volume and turned up the bass I realized this is great rockin’ punk with a good dose of 70’s punk thrown in here and there for good measure. (I really dig the 70’s feel that kicks in about 4 songs into this album). Pretty cool. -dan --------------------------------------------------------------------------------MOUTHWASH-DRINKIN" CHOIRBOYImagine this: A 96-X Halloween bash featuring The Weaklings, Supersuckers and a long awaited reunion of the original Misfits at Route 44. The list of reasons why this pipe dream October 31st show could never happen is too numerous to list here, but with 14 beer-soaked ghoulish treats at your finger tips on "Better Luck Next Time," you won't miss those dreadfully long lines to the bathroom. Includes mandatory Johnny Cash cover. |
