Artist History
Originally started as a band named Vision back in 1992. Back then we were 4 people brough together in highschool by the mutual interest of bands such as Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Frontline Assembly and Front 242. Vision songs are now available at www.mp3.com/visionsweden (link can also be found under links). Vision released a self-titled demo and appeared on various electro compilations in Sweden and also played live a few times.
In 1997, when Johan (lyrics/producer) left Vision, Magnus and Niklas thought it was time to move on. Niklas' brother Pontus enrolled the band and The Mourning After was formed. A time of inspiration and songwriting followed. In 2000 they thought it was time to say hello to the ones listening. An MCD called 'Never The Same' was released. This one featured a new sound apart from what Vision earlier produced. A discoish feeling and more up-tempo than before. The MCD was well recieved and various appearances at compilations mainly in USA and Sweden followed.
For the release party, The Mourning After needed vocal backup for the gig. The sisters Malin and Matilda came to do the job. This was also followed by their appearance on recorded songs. Eventually, they happily relized that they were now a five piece band. Having Three vocalists, four keyboard players, one guitarplayer and five songwriters within the band.
Nowadays the band has very different inspiration sources, from Thomson Twins, Alphaville, Simple Minds, U2 and other more classic New Wave artists of the eighties to easy 50s pop, synthesized 70s rock and 90s Euro Disco.

Press Reviews
About Never The Same (MCD): "This single is one of the finest synthpop releases of this period. The Mourning After are three cool Swedish guys and this pre-release single contains three extremely catching tunes (Never The Same, The Way You Move, Waiting Till Dawn plus the bonus remixed version of the title track) that sounds just like the very first Depeche Mode. Do you remember the Modes playing songs like “New Life”, “Dreaming Of Me” or the unreleased “I Like It”? Well the Mourning After take that fresh sounds just to make their own songs with the right attitude: 80’s tunes with 90’s energy. Listen to the instrumental Waiting Till Dawn and you’ll see the Kraftwerk dancing… I can’t wait the end of this year to listen to their album!"-Chain D.L.K."Other great sample from the Sweden Synth-Pop scene, this single show us the great quality of The Mourning After, 4 tracks for enjoy, you can hear great sounds, secuences, arrays and a cool and soft voice, danceable and with perfect rythms, the sound of the synthetizers is a mixture of analog sounds with digital frecuencies and a beat box."-Distortion Sekt"Up from the ashes of Vision comes The Mourning After. Agreeable pop in the avant-garde vein, but a bit less sunny. "Waiting Till Dawn (Extended)" is a deeply cool atmospheric number with neat vocoder effect, although clocking in at 3:14 seems on the short end of extended. Flu's remix of "The Way You Move Me" mixes in drums n bass/breakbeat touches that remakes thats songs into a sure-fire dance floor filler. -DR"-Lexicon Magazine |
