Artist History
This thing happened, and then it happened again....and again...and again....and, well you get the picture. Bands are hard to keep together. Everyone wants to do their own thing, which can make it difficult to do something together. In turn, they break up.
So, this is it. Me. Sean McCarthy.
Now, I'll never say that I won't at some point add to this solo endeavor, the adage never say never sort of applies here. But for now, I'll worry about what I want to do. It's been a long time coming.
The history lesson follows....
Many, many failed bands in New England paved the way to what I do now. I remember needing three things in those days; a meal and a half a day, a pack of cigarettes and a dry place to sleep. I've since quit smoking, I eat better and I live somewhere. It's a
good start.
For those of you who are or were Johnny Whatever fans, thanks....but say goodbye to it like I did and you'll feel better. Trust me. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything, but it's time to move on. Hopefully, I'll be able to hold your attention long enough to interest you in stopping by to see a show and hang with me. And maybe someday I'll be able to show up at a convenience store in one of those small towns without turning around every time someone says, "Hey Johnny!" damnit! I have a feeling that it'll be a while before that name goes away. The big question that everyone may ask is, "Those are Johnny Whatever songs....aren't they?" Well, nope. They may have been part of that whole thing, but I wrote 'em, I'm keepin' em! Got it? Good.
I'm going to try to get back to the reason that I started playing in the first place....as
soon as I can remember what that was. It'll be like finding myself again, or some crap like that. I actually have no idea. I just learned to play the guitar and sang because no one else wanted to back in a high school band. When I started getting paid for it I was like, day job???
So here I am, doing what I do best. Whether you like me or not, I'm still here.

Press Reviews
"Songs fronted by jangling acoustic strings dwell in the valley of modern radio rock, right next door to Matchbox 20 Island. Highly prepared, ready-for-heavy-radio-rotation songs also display the talents of a raspy-voiced lead singer." -Kali Holloway, Listen.com *Boston area radio station WXKS - KISS 108 FM, featured "Goodbye" in their "New Music Spotlight" on Monday, February 14th! A BIG thanks to Skip Kelly & David Corey! Skip is your 10pm - 2am DJ Monday through Friday & Sundays from 12pm - 4pm, David is the station's music director. How did the song do? Well, Skip took calls & emails for about a half an hour after to get some response & the word is (was), 100% on the phones & 100% on the emails! (That's a good thing!) |
