Artist History
Hunter Payne began his professional career at sixteen in the great folk tradition of Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he played local spots, including the venerable Club 47 and Unicorn coffeehouses, toured the College Coffeehouse Circuit, headlined Greenwich Village’s Bitter End, opened for touring pros such as Bonnie Raitt and recorded several solo albums for Columbia Records, where he worked with legendary producer John Hammond. During these years Hunter also served as Leonard Bernstein’s music and television liaison at PBS Television for Bernstein’s highly acclaimed eight-week Harvard University Norton Lecture series. At PBS, Hunter scored for television, hosted his own nationwide radio show on NPR, and became a featured vocalist on the WGBH-TV Jazz Show. Since moving to L. Press Reviews
"Smooth country is what singer/songwriter Hunter Payne is about and he nails the genre's radio-friendly essence on his opening tune, "One Last Chance." Payne has the style that could make him a contender for Nash-pop success." - MUSIC CONNECTION "Slick Adult Contemporary with strong vocals and a memorable hook. Everything is tasteful from the laid- back Folk-Rock groove to the perfect guitar solo. This could have been on any one of the last 10 James Taylor albums. - LISTEN.COM "Superb storytelling." - THE NEW YORKER MAGAZINE "Lovers of country and AC rock will enjoy the record, the writing is top notch and performances are polished and from the heart - a world class talent in the singer/songwriter category." EARBUZZ "Wow.....A truly remarkable CD!" - THE INCREDIBLY SMALL CONCERT HALL "Hunter is the quintessential troubadour - very talented." - LEONARD BERNSTEIN |
