Artist History
Cold Eternal started as a solo project for Villnave after the 1997 demise of his Central NY based metal band, Realm. In the early days of the Cold Eternal project, it was an experimental thing. Villnave enjoyed mixing electronic sounds with his earlier metal style and as he wrote more songs, the sound became more defined. In 2001, Villnave added guitarist Bob Bentley and bassist Joe Belcastro into the mix to work on a live band to support the new album "Songs of Winter". |

Press Reviews
Cold Eternal: Songs of Winter If the title alone makes you envision a frosty assortment of chilly delicacies then you won’t be disappointed with what lies inside. There is nothing warm and fuzzy about Cold Eternal’s fourth and latest release, Songs of Winter that includes 11 bold, new songs including two live tracks. Cold Eternal is where the Misfits meet Marilyn Manson who in return meets Nine Inch Nails. From the first, hard hitting song, “Stripped Away” to the last, "Raven", a very original, beautifully written song that shares tones with classic rock songs from the past mixed with Villnave’s eclectic personal style, this album will not disappoint. Instrumentally and lyrically this album visits the darker side of human emotion and as the title rightfully represents, shows the cold that can live in each and all of us when living with anger, pain, and confusion. However it is not stripped bare of everything that makes an album successful. The mastermind behind Cold Eternal, Matt Villnave, has come into his own, pairing wildly imaginative and thought provoking lyrics with dark, melodic and catchy instrumentation. Past albums, including work done by Villnave’s earliest band, Realm, which was started in 1993, seemed void of this power hitting combination. New songs like Masquerade, Porneia, Made of Shadows, Moment of Silence and Raven prove to be the catchier of the all-star, 11 song line-up and can easily launch Villnave’s creation into a crowd-pleasing success. Whereas songs like You Cry, To be Alone and The Wolf are reminiscent of his earlier work and his influences that he cites as Danzig and Nine Inch Nails. Songs of Winter, which meshes its industrial style with subtle hints of classic rock and punk and is what Villnave himself calls an, “organized mess with interesting melody” is his best album to date and worth picking up. |
