Artist description
Embedded in the kind of black metal that can only originate from the
northern countries of Europe, the Oslo-based Norwegians known as Old
Man's Child have honored their dark leader with a pair of worthy
offerings, namely the 1996 mini-CD In The Shades Of Life (which was
the band’s demo, re-released on Norwegian’s own Hot Records, the label
run by Dimmu Borgir vocalist Shagrath) and the worldwide license of
their 1996 full-length album, Born Of The Flickering. Amidst the
crowded sea of impostors and premature efforts, Born Of The Flickering
stood out like a fiery diamond on the blackest of sack-cloth. Although
produced in a scant five days, it put many a lavishly-produced records to
shame. Now, having signed on with the Century Black label worldwide,
the band return with their most formidable work thus far, entitled The
Pagan Prosperity. Featuring their most diverse compositions yet, The
Pagan Prosperity crosses the boundaries of black metal to invoke
swatches of everything from traditional metal to gothic, also displaying
what has to be some of the finest songwriting ability in black metal today.
There is a special identity about the band's music which evokes a large
gap between them and their competitors, as their non-compromising
attitude isn't limited by artistic ideologies. Their music, oft hostile and
feral, has been boosted by the band’s ever-increasing songwriting skills,
and now a strong sense of melody permeates their core and helps to truly
set up their more vicious moments. Old Man's Child have taken the next
step towards the overthrow of enlightened order as we know it, and
nothing of earthly origin shall dissuade their unholy war. |
