Artist History Born in Marietta, GA. David Newton is as well traveled as his musical influences. Moving from the south to New Hampshire, to Aspen then to Phoenix, David has fused facet’s of his musical surroundings. At the age of 15, he purchased his first guitar. At the urging of his first guitar teacher, David was instructed to only play The Blues on his new Fender Strat. Soon, David heard the calling of the turbulent times of his surroundings and turned toward the no boundaries of Rock and Roll. Influenced by The Beatles, Bono, and the pop stylings of Prince, David set out to make his mark on the world. David Newton and London where brought together through a chance meeting in Phoenix, Arizona. David was looking for a studio to begin recording his demo and stumbled onto a friendship that would change both of their lives. In the first five minutes of meeting, it was obvious they were on to something special. "We were tossing ideas around. London gave me great advise and really took in everything I was communicating musically…I could feel the hair standing on the back of my neck. The energy was right," says David. Fast Forward 2 years, 11 songs, and 2 interludes and we have www.kissandride.com, the debut album from NEWTON, which stands as the beginning of a new writing, production partnership between David Newton and London. With David on Guitars and Vocals, along with London on Keys, Drums, Programming, and engineering, NEWTON has constructed a musical collage that fuses the guitar driven energy of Rock with the funky rhythms of Urban and R&B. This album definitely reaches into 2000, but stays rooted in the strong foundation of rock and soul. Songcraft, passion, and angst fuse together in www.kissandride.com to portray a world of stormy and rapturous love, regret and rejuvenation. Whatever the mood, lead vocalist David Newton is an insightful pop storyteller, able to turn a musical phrase and illuminate simple but subtle truths. The first two songs on the CD "Kiss and Ride" and "Rain Dance" are straight ahead feel good ramblers with a thumping grooves and catchy choruses. "A Better Lover" is a classic rocker with biting guitars that seem to give warning of a "dangerous attraction," while "A Mothers Tears" surges with the anguish of loss and builds to a healing revelation,"No ones Crying In Heaven" "Anything, Anything"" is the only cover song on the album. NEWTON'S rendition stands as tribute to one of the 80's most endearing bands, Dramarama. Propelled by it’s heavy four on the floor and wall of techno inspired guitars, this song gets you up, out of your seat, and to the dance floor. NEWTON has built a large following in the Southwest and plays regularly to energetic fans who mouth the words to their favorite songs.
