Artist description
To put
this band in one genre would be unjust. Their sound ranges from kick
your mother in the teeth rhythms, to a southern oriented, acoustic guitar
piece. And please, let’s not forget the ever so clear metal roots portrayed
in virtually every track. After conquering the states and Europe (including
a hard core festival containing 35,000 +) MY OWN VICTIM were on a
continuous mission to give the people more of the same, only this time
with a twist of lime. They went forth into the Normandy Sound Studio
with producer Jaime Locke (Madball, Sick of it All, Obituary) and came
out with 11 new songs sure to leave even the strongest critics speechless.
So hence, the story of our fearless Kentucky boys continues still, only this
time The Weapon is sure to bring you to your knees. |

Artist History
To trace the brief but busy history of Kentucky bruisers My Own Victim,
one only needs to look back to 1990 when the band assembled in their
hometown of Louisville under the name Human Remains. Though young
and raw in form, this early incarnation set the blueprints for what would
become a formidable wrecking machine over the course of the next five
years. Early in 1994 the band went into the studio and recorded what
would be their last demo in anticipation of securing a record deal. This
five-track tape (known as Foothold) is what drew the attention of Century
Media who went about the process of signing the promising act amidst
further press accolades and further live shows. Once a contract was
signed the band decided to change their name to the more original My
Own Victim to once again separate them from other bands who shared the
Crawlspace name. By now the band had fine-tuned their sound to achieve
a violent harmony between their metallic origins and the hardcore rhythms
which increasingly developed along with their maturing personalities. A
brash, energetic display of emotion and anger that has allowed them to
share stages with bands as varied as Downset, Prong, Pantera, Biohazard,
Cannibal Corpse, Agnostic Front, Pro-Pain and Bad Brains, the group's
debut appearance was a self-titled EP released in Europe only, six
hard-hitting songs that featured two re-recorded demo tracks along with
four new compositions. The band followed up the sharp jabs of that EP
with a lethal uppercut in the form of Burning Inside, their first full-length
album. Their second assault lies in the form of No Voice, No Rights, No
Freedom, a surprisingly mature and powerful jolt of straight-up New
York-inspired hardcore. A European tour with Biohazard served as the
perfect step up for this young hungry band, and some Stateside dates are
destined to soon follow. MY OWN VICTIM have outdone themselves
once again with their third full length album entitled The Weapon. |
