Artist History
The origins of this darkly dreamy formation can be traced back to January ‘94, when the name of the band was “Sleep Of Right”. During this period they held some live shows and appeared on a compilation for a small independant label in May ‘95. What followed was a period of adjustment and change, which resolved itself with the advent of Claudio, Leonardo and Cristina in the band. In June ‘96 they changed their name to “Ethereal”, a definition closely resembling their music. As Ethereal, they recorded their first demo “promo-tape ‘96” which gained them favorable consensus from the specialized media and attracted the attention of Century Media. In ‘97 they changeed their name once again (due to an already existing band of the same name) to Lacuna Coil. The definition, “empty spiral”, evokes that nostalgic, celestial feeling they wanted to convey in their former moniker. Their sound can be described as melancholic, dark rock engulfed in narcotic melody, with progressive hints and beautiful ethereal female vocals. And like everything bearing an Italian trademark, Lacuna Coil’s music is brimming with one essential ingredient: Passion. The band has finished the recording of their debut MCD at the Woodhouse Studios with guru Waldemar Sorychta, “LACUNA COIL” will be released by Century Media in January ‘98 in Europe, and in April in the USA. “Shallow End” (demo) can be heard on “Darkness We Feel”, bonus compilation attached to Rotting Christ’s album “A Dead Poem”. Lacuna Coil will support Moonspell on their European Record Release tour beginning early December. |
