Artist History
A Brief story.
It all began back in them days of ‘Rave’ when the sounds from Top Buzz, Grooverider, Carl Cox, the whistle’s and the horns got his attention and made this guy realise what he wanted to do with his life. Ever since that time he has simply been devoted to developing his own sound, his own music and his events in Cardiff that have changed the whole scene in South Wales.
Having been resident dj at the legendary Hip’po Club for three years he built his skills on the decks from watching and playing alongside the superstar DJ’s of today. They all know him, they have all had him warm-up for and take over after them and they all know he does the job well, whatever ever the style of guest and whatever the time of night.
Moving on from the Hip’po he began to do more guest sets at clubs such as Timeflies, Naughty But Nice, Slinky and Republica and was one of the team to set up ‘Enter The Dragon’ in Cardiff. The night was a huge success from day one with Oakey launching the event and then continuing until Jimpy and Partner Andy moved away from the club in January of this year knowing that the venue was to be closed in the near future but never being told when by club management. Having to leave behind the name and brand they had worked so hard to establish after a legal dispute the guys set up….
ROAR at Wales super club Evolution, Cardiff Bay. Obviously causing a huge stir in Welsh club land and in their old venue interests the guys battled onto convince the clubbers to follow them and worked even harder on the DJ’s and agencies to keep everyone coming in their direction. The majority did but short-term gain for some left them behind. In June this year the old club went into liquidation, everything these two passionate promoters had said was true. ROAR now continues and grows, as Fergie, Lisa Lashes, Guy Ornadel or any other recent guest will tell you, it simply ROCKS !!
Signed to Whoop, Deviant and Southeast Recordings, Jimpy currently has a new single out through Dorigen Music 'Infectious N', denting DJ hype charts and causing serious damage on the nation's cooler dance floors as you read this. He has remixed tracks for labels such as Multiply (as Jimpy & Wolff) and recently their remix of 'Voices' was used on the soundtrack of 'The Beach'.
Last year saw Jimpy's single 'Valley of the Kings' for Southeast gaining rave reviews in every dance music publication and being supported by the likes of Seb Fontaine, Paul van Dyk, Mauro Picotto, & Gordon Kaye amongst others. His unique mix of twisted trance, progressive beats, and slick percussion is earning him a sound in his own right.
Production-wise, it all kicked off for Jimpy when his 'Talkin' single for Whoop! was featured by Sasha on his 'Global Undergound - Ibiza' compilation. This led to an EP being signed to Deviant and now Paul Van Dyk has just included Jimpy’s unsigned ‘Feeling Good’ track onto his forthcoming Ministry Of Sound Mix Compilation !
Known for both his percussive & progressive early sets and his mind-blowing twisted trance sets; Jimpy is one of the new breed of DJs in line for major league status over the coming months, especially after publication of DJ Magazine's Top 100 DJs for 2000 at the end of last year where he has crashed in at an amazing #54 on the back of his residency at the Dragon, disproving the theory that the chart is a set-up!! Jimpy has played alongside DJs like Paul Oakenfold, Seb Fontaine, and David Morales in the last year. His promotions have held nights in association with Slinky, Miss MoneyPennys, Renaissance and Sundissential with more in the pipeline for 2001.
July saw the release of Jimpy's debut DJ mix CD through Soundworx, Southeast Recordings' new DJ mix session series. The album is sure to solidify Jimpy's growing reputation as one of the new forces in British dance music.
In addition to ROAR in Cardiff you can catch Jimpy at the new Timeflies monthly event Tempus where he has taken up residency, Slinky in Bristol and up and down the UK each weekend as he pushes his brand of Dark, Drivin Trance...
Things look good for Jimpy in 2001
