Artist description
Humantra is mood metal; Their sound ranges from plummeting metallic assaults to tripped-out, melodies and explorations. Based out of Tempe, Arizona, the band's tunes are riddled with cutting edge guitar work, unique drum parts, and great vocals. Tank (Aftermath, Twelve Ton Sledge, Corruption) plays some of the most innovative and intense lead guitar to date in metal. Australian drummer Tom Head injects fiery rhythmic grooves into the mix, while Dr. Jimmy Kickball (Hypertension, Red Terror) sonicates stomachs to jelly with his articulate bass work. Johnny Leia fronts the band as the singer/rhythm guitarist, to complete a line-up that has to be seen to be believed. The wide range of styles that the band posseses is used demonstrate the emotional changes of humans towards hard views and facts of life that we are exposed to day in and day out. Humantra's explosive live shows are becoming more and more popular within the local metal scene. The band members often improvise parts onstage, preferring to feed off the crowd's reaction for inspiration rather than to just regurgitate a setlist. |

Artist History
Singer/songwriter/rhythm guitarist Johnny Leia played in a few garage bands before setting his sights on a project like Humantra. Experiencing a lot about life at a young age, Johnny has written some very deep and soulful lyrics, and the music that the band makes is heightened by his unique and powerful vocal style. Local Arizona lead guitarist Tank has played with well-known acts such as Aftermath, 12 Ton Sledge, and Corruption. His gift for songwriting and incredible guitar playing has been at the heart of Humantra's ability to captivate their crowd. Dr. Jimmy Kickball joined the band after playing with local bands Hypertension and Red Terror among others, and in doing so he added a great bottom end style essential to the Humantra sound. Dr. Kickball injected new attitude and life into rest of the band with his entertaining approach to live performances. Australian drummer Tom Head rivets the music with new rhythm styles that only help to reflect Humantra's desire to forge ahead into the future of metal. The mp3s included on mp3.com are songs taken from Humantra's 1998 demo entitled "Pivotal". The demo was made at a time when the band was still polishing their early original songs and not playing any shows. Recorded and mixed over one weekend, Pivotal is definately not a polished EP or LP (none of these mp3s have been mastered, so you get a really raw sound), however the mp3s should give you a feel for Humantra's sound. The band will go into the studio on the 29th of April to lay down some new songs and re-record older ones, and to finally master a polished release. Stay tuned!Humantra's shows have lately been at the world famous Phoenix rock/metal club The Mason Jar, as well as local rock venues like The Big Fish Pub and Hollywood Alley in Tempe. The band has had radio play on Arizona's no. 1 radio rock station, KUPD.( for more detail, go to http://www.syspac.com/~rfrick/humanbio.html) |
